That is very odd that your copy doesn't have the DTS track. Just checked mine and it's listed on the case and on the disc. No wonder you're anxious for the Blu-ray.

Kory it's a must-have IMO and I think every American should watch this movie. Alot a Americans made the ultimate sacrifice for this freedom we have,we should all "earn it" IMO.
I was a little disappointed that it didn't win the Oscar that year but once I watched Shakespeare in Love I could not argue that it was not worthy of the Oscar itself, that was a great movie also.

Day one purchase for me regardless of price!!!!
I disagree with above posts. SPR is a great war movie. I think it takes repeat viewings to fully grasp this movie. When i first watched it back in 99 I was like THIS IS IT!!! Great 20 minute opening and great closing but middle just seems dull and uneventful with exception of storming the radio tower.
But as I watched it over few years later and seen it more times I appreciate the middle of the movie more now than just opening and closing. its about feeling and real portrayal of humanity. This could be seen in the scene where they are going through dog tags and laughing, joking, yet others are seeing this and it really makes you think that they are playing and joking around about people who died and they are gone. Another great scene is where the german soldier was digging his own grave and talking about betty grable and steamboat willie.
Heck even Vin Diesel did decent in this one. Its a great story. For those who think this was or supposed to be a macho flick..it was never meant to be. The first 20 minutes show you realistic fighting and dying, yet the middle shows you realistic potrayal of humanity.
Anywa...awesome flick and day one buy!!!

I think it is better. I think Supermallet is dead on WRT SPR. I think the opening is amazing, the exposition sort of blah and it picks up towards the end. Definitely not my favorite Spielberg film.

That's funny, because when I watch SPR I keep hoping all those annoying soldiers will eventually get eaten by dinosaurs, but it never happens.

Well I'll say both of those movies are on my most wanted list for Blu ray and try not to let this thread get too far off track. I think we should be careful of any threadcrapping.
Regardless of which are officially announced first I think it's obvious that Spielberg titles will be coming this year and that's good news for anyone that likes them. The last rumor of JP from DigitalBits was beginning of November. Although Hunt frequently jumps to conclusions in his reporting of rumors I think it's safe to assume that it's at least a good possibility with a few other titles already announced.

I was just looking at my collection and came across this title and wondered when the Blu-Ray version was coming.

Spielberg is one of few directors who I collect all of their catalog. I really think he has never let me down with a stinker.

I saw some of this in HD on cable and it looked pretty impressive. I wonder if the boards will light up with complaints about the fires or flames getting streaky like the original release caused.

Other than Hook (unwatchable) and Indy 4 (should be banned under the Geneva Convention as an illegal form of torture), yeah, that's pretty much true.

I like Spielberg in small doses, when he's serious: Jaws, Munich and when he's fun: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jurassic Park
Saving Private Ryan doesn't fall into the upper echelon of his films for me. Band of Brothers is like how Saving Private Ryan should have been.
