I’d be more tempted by the Scream editions of the Exorcist sequels if I hadn’t bought the set containing all five films a few years back. I still might get the third film at some point for the director’s cut but don’t think I’ll bother with The Heretic.

Exorcist II is not a very good movie, but the lousy video and audio on the existing Warner Blu-ray don't do it any favors. If Scream can give it a decent remaster in line with what they did for Exorcist III (theatrical version), I'd give it another look.

Where's TRILOGY OF TERROR they announced was coming months ago?

Which company offered JACK THE RIPPER(1959) last winter during a limited sale and supposed to wide release in the spring?

It's got one of the best most intense scary scenes.

Awesome. A good rainy day movie. Love the bros scenes with Kirby, Stern, and Crystal. The movie is still a little underrated...Giant fan, and will be great to replace my MGM DVD...Hope they have some good special features on this one...

That's coming from Kino Lorber. It's slated for October 16th, just in time for you know what.

i actually worked with the mentally impaired kid in this. think he was also in The Ringer with Knoxville. John, maybe? it was when i was a kid working at a Best Buy in Hudson Valley, NY. He was cool. Pretty much just put DVD's in the correct place...

It’s as bad as you’ve heard. There’s really nothing redeeming about it. The only thing that makes it somewhat interesting is that it features early McConaughey and Zellweger performances.

I'd argue that it was the absolute worst Texas Chainsaw Massacre film. A record it held from 1994 all the way until 2017, when it was supplanted.

From Scream's FB page, regarding EXORCIST II:

• Extras and specs are still in progress and will be announced later in August. However, we can confirm today that we will have a new high-definition transfer of two cuts of the film! (The 117 min version that has been on Blu-ray and DVD before and a shorter, alternate version that was created after the film’s initial release in 1977.) You’ll also be happy to know that we have a brand-new interview with ‘Regan’ herself, actress Linda Blair!
Has the "alternate version" ever been on video in its entirety? The previous DVD and Blu had only an "alternative opening", but some reviews (including the one here) mention the other cut (possibly also a workprint/preview version or some such, although Scream says it was created after the initial release) also having a slightly different ending. Were there any other significant differences between the two?

Regardless, it's nice that Scream is including both full versions of the film, not that either make it any more tolerable. I suppose the eventual quantity/quality of additional supplements might be the deciding factor for folks like me. I doubt they'd actually get Boorman to participate, but that might be revealing.

I must have missed that when my eyes were glazed over from boredom. I don't recall anything scary in the movie at all.

Been really busy and haven't been keeping up. Glad to come back and see that Community Complete Series and freaking Valley Girl are getting BD releases. Can't wait to see Nicolas Cage's triangle of chest hair in HD. Hope they get as much of the original soundtrack cleared as they can.

I realize that I am not really contributing to this thread in productive way but I just want to point out that I chuckled when I clicked on a banner ad last night for a Shout Factory Horror film sale event and noticed that they consider Robocop 3 a horror film, for some reason this cracked me up.

Fixed. I was surprised they didn't tack it on as a bonus feature for #2. ;)

Listing is up for the Shout Select version of the hugely underrated Aussie western QUIGLEY DOWN UNDER on Sept. 25. It doesn't carry the "Collector's Edition" tag, but Simon Wincer's been good for audio commentaries in recent years, so hopefully he'll provide one for this. I seem to recall scenes in the trailers that weren't in the finished film as well (??) Great to see the original theatrical poster back in play, too. Now if only Shout could pick up the largely forgotten Tom Selleck film Lassiter from Hen's Tooth so its "inspiration" could be revived for a double feature! :)

Love me some Quigley. One of Alan Rickman's more enjoyable roles. I will definitely be upgrading from my DVD assuming they don't botch the transfer.

HA! I remember watching what I thought was going to be a standard horror movie. Then my mom came home and the first thing she sees on the screen is a full frontal nude scene. She thought I was watching porn and I had to turn it off.

From Scream's Facebook page, bonus features for the three upcoming John Carpenter films. To say the least, IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS is now an absolute must own, and SOMEONE'S WATCHING ME looks really tempting, too.

IN THE MOUTH OF MADNESS
• NEW 4K scan of the original film elements
• NEW Audio Commentary with director John Carpenter and producer Sandy King Carpenter
• NEW Horror’s Hallowed Grounds – a look at the film’s locations today
• NEW The Whisperer of the Dark - an interview with actress Julie Carman
• NEW Greg Nicotero’s Things in the Basement – a new interview with special effects artist Greg Nicotero including behind-the-scenes footage
• NEW Home Movies from Hobb’s End – Behind the Scenes footage from Greg Nicotero
• Audio Commentary with director John Carpenter and cinematographer Gary B. Kibbe
• Vintage Featurette – The Making of In the Mouth of Madness
• Theatrical Trailer
• TV Spots

MEMOIRS OF AN INVISIBLE MAN
• NEW 2K scan of the original film elements
• How to Become Invisible: The Dawn of Digital F/X
• Vintage interviews with director John Carpenter, actors Chevy Chase and Daryl Hannah
• Behind the Scenes footage
• Outtakes
• Theatrical Trailer
• TV Spots

SOMEONE'S WATCHING ME
• NEW 2K scan from the original film elements – in both 1.85:1 and 1.33:1 aspect ratios
• NEW audio commentary with author Amanda Reyes (Are You in the House Alone?: A TV Movie Compendium 1964-1999)
• NEW Adrienne Barbeau: Looking Back at Someone’s Watching Me
• NEW Carpenter’s Enforcer – an interview with Charles Cyphers on his career in John Carpenter’s films
• NEW Horror’s Hallowed Grounds – A Look At The Film’s Locations Today
• John Carpenter: Director Rising
• TV Promo
• Still Gallery
Curious to see the Horror's Hallowed Ground for ITMOM as little village of Unionville, where they shot a lot of the exteriors, is close by here and has changed very little since those days. I'm assuming they also visited the famous (around these parts) water treatment facility that doubled as the asylum.
