Terror Train is going out of print, so I suggest people who are interested in the film pick it up now if you haven't already,

I wonder why they didn't do a SB for The Thing.

It's a more recent release so they probably want more standard copies to sell before they milk it for a steelbook.

Perhaps. I would think that one would sell the easiest.

Shout has announced the release of Downfall (2004), which is a masterpiece IMO. Of course, I already imported it.

Stuff like They Live and The Fog were among their earliest releases, and Escape From New York was a top seller because it was in retail stores like Best Buy. Sales on those titles had probably trickled down to nothing. Sales on The Thing are probably much stronger, so why undercut that with a steelbook for consumers to choose between, when they can wait longer and get people to double dip later?

Yes!! Hopefully it'll be the same transfer and extras from the Arrow release.

That Arrow release has been one of the biggest temptations for me in splurging on a region free player (couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger).

A region free player is like $100. DO IT!

It was when I bought mine. Now it's about $150 for a refurbished unit or $189 for a brand new one.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-list...&condition=all

Even at that price it is definitely a steal.

This came up in the 3D thread recently, so it's worth repeating here. I bought this player 'customized' Sony all-region 2D/3D for $109 about a year ago (same one Why So Blu just posted above!):

Solid unit. While that price has since gone up, it might drop again (not sure), and there are other, similar machines worth perusing in the "customers also viewed" section.

If you don't need the 3D, the same seller (I'm not affiliated, btw) has this unit for $99.00
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VPGS1J0
along with other brands at various prices.

Looks like it's a little cheaper direct from the seller. Add $40 to the listed price for region free.

Anyone get Beyond the Gates? How is it overall? The movie itself, presentation, extras, etc. Good blind buy? Gore? Repeat viewings?

Uh, seriously? Why would you think that? The film has received ZERO supplements in the entire almost 30 years since its release. It's plenty.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

This is also the 1st HD Blu-Ray release of the movie.

I'm guessing his concern is that the amount of extras might not be enough for him to spend $20+ on a 30 year old catalog title.

Not every title is going to get a 2 hour + making of documentary like Teen Wolf. Shout Factory has to work with what resources they have available and who is willing to be interviewed. Weller and Elliott probably weren't available or weren't interested in being interviewed. Weller refuses to talk about Robocop because he thinks there's enough EPK material of him talking about it already.

If the price point is too much, just wait for a sale.

Ah, gotcha, Yeah, a full feature commentary with an intro and little making-off is more than enough for me.

Agreed that's a VERY decent set of extras for Shakedown.

Shout has the details up for Matinee now. Everything from Arrow's UK edition except their "Discussion with Joe Dante on the effects of Mant!", but they compensate with seven more pieces. Nice that they got Lisa Jakub to participate:

Bonus Features

NEW Master Of The Matinee – An Interview With Director Joe Dante
NEW The Leading Lady – An Interview with Cathy Moriarty
NEW MANTastic! The Making Of A Mant
NEW Out Of The Bunker – An Interview With Actress Lisa Jakub
NEW Making A Monster Theatre – An Interview With Production Designer Steven Legler
NEW The Monster Mix – An Interview With Editor Marshall Harvey
NEW Lights! Camera! Reunion! – An Interview With Director Of Photography John Hora
Paranoia In Ant Vision – Joe Dante Discusses The Making Of The Film
MANT! – The Full Length Version Of The Film With Introduction By Joe Dante
Vintage Making Of Featurette
Behind The Scenes Footage Courtesy Of Joe Dante
Deleted And Extended Scenes Sourced From Joe Dante’s Workprint

I thought the movie was pretty disappointing. Maybe one good kill/gore scene but not enough to warrant a blind buy. I believe it's still streaming on Netflix...

If you haven't already ordered the new 4K mastered Bruce Lee BD's from Shout, you better hurry. They are going out of print in January.

Shout said their Jackie Chan BD's are also going out of print. Terror Train from Scream Factory is also going out of print.

They said all remaining unsold product will be destroyed.

The only reason I've even heard of that movie is because Devo did the theme song. So I am interested in seeing it, but being a Shout Select it's probably gonna be a bit expensive for a blind buy

I barely remember Doctor Detroit, other than Dan Aykroyd I believe met his wife Donna Dixon on the movie. For some reason that is all I remember...
