Is Red Dawn getting a new transfer? Atmos track perhaps?

Another new title announcement by Scream. Species (the 1st movie)

***NEW TITLE ANNOUNCE***
Well the cat (or alien, in this case) is out of the bag. Due to some recently unplanned leaks on various outlets we are moving up our reveal that we are planning a Collector's Edition of the 1995 original sci-fi hit SPECIES for sometime this Summer!
No details to provide at the moment but we update you in the upcoming months.

No and definitely no. Scream has used DTS-HD MA forever and I highly doubt that'll change any time soon.

Natasha Henstridge recorded a new interview for Species II when that was released last year. It would not surprise me if they also talked to her about Species I to save for this release. Shout did the same thing with William Petersen on Manhunter and To Live and Die in LA.

Total B sci-fi horror. It's the movie that made Natasha Henstridge's career and it was her 1st movie.

It actually has a pretty good cast.

Species is a lot of fun, and yes, great cast. But it's probably best to stop after the first one, maybe second, as the continuing sequels dip in quality pretty severely.

Love the first and the second Species movies. Will probably eventually pick up both Scream! versions. Especially since I believe it was Natasha Henstridge that let it leak she was working on new extras. Would pick up a box set of all of them if they were to make it attractive price wise. Short of they're participation in the Halloween box, how many other box sets have they done? Of course, I don't think it's often they score every one within a movie franchise so maybe there hasn't been much of a precedent in the past.

Scream said on their Facebook page that they have no plans to make a Species box set.

Oh well, their loss. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has no interest in picking up that III/IV disc on its own, but would pay more than I would to get I and II alone if it was a well produced set.

Why no on transfer? Isn't that the point of most Shout! releases?

Sigh... All four SPECIES films have already been released on Blu, in very good transfers. No need for a boxset, or even a re-release of the original SPECIES which is certainly the best of the bunch by a longshot.

Easy pass... more effort wasted at a re-release...

The original Species is on almost barebones disc. Only the commentaries and a couple of short featurettes. It needed a new BD special edition.

The video and audio quality sucked according to this review:

http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Specie...ray/75/#Review

The 2nd movie was just released by Shout as a SE last year.

3 and 4 where released as a double disc set by Shout.

I have no idea where anybody got the idea that the current BD of Species I is any good. I've held on to my 2 SE DVD because the BD sucks. Held off buying the Scream! BD od II because it's been rumored for a long time that they would eventually release the first movie. If there will be no set I'll look for a decent price on a used copy of II and pick up Species I when it comes out.

It's pretty much the last hurrah of 80s type hard-R sci-fi like Alien/s, Predator, Terminator, and Robocop. (Even though it came out in the mid-90s.)

So if you like that kind of stuff, you should enjoy Species. It has a solid cast -- Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Marg Helgenberger, Forrest Whitaker -- and even Natasha Henstridge, whose primary role is to scamper around naked and kill people, puts in a good performance.

Like most of these things, the sequels get exponentially worse.

I have a soft spot in my heart for Species, one of only a few films I was able to attend a cast and crew screening. My brother in law worked on some of the special effects for this film. I will probably pick up this edition...the existing blu really is nothing to write home about.

I guess the original Blu of SPECIES used mpeg2 compression, so I'd suppose an upgrade of the codec to h.264 and an increase in the bitrate will be very welcome indeed. So, after watching my old Blu-ray of SPECIES tonight, I'll vouch that the need for an upgrade is imminent.

I think people are mindlessly slamming the Species' sequels without having seen them. For horror franchise sequels they are minor variations on the formula from the original Species, but quality movies for the most part. You could do a lot worse in terms of horror sequels than the Species franchise.

No idea but my guess is the current master supplied by MGM was seen as "good enough". I have no clue if it is a 2K/4K or what but it has received average marks from reviewers.

I had to review Species 2-4 when those discs came out and let me tell you, 2 is OK but the series goes WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY downhill after that. 3 is a painful viewing experience while 4 is absolutely god-awful Sci-Fi Channel garbage.

Yup, Species 3 and 4 are pretty bad compared to the first. Much of it having to do with the terrible cast. The second movie fares better given 3 of the lead actors are back, and they added James Cromwell.

I just watched all four. I doubt I'll ever watch 3 and 4 again, and I purposely watch bad films so,Erik Estrada.

Ok, how the crap did autocorrect turn "sometimes" into "so,Erik Estrada"? I don't think I've ever typed his name in my life until now.

I've never typed 'ducking' into my phone but I get that all the time. so, Erik Estrada auto-correct just doesn't make sense.

I think you probably hit the "," instead of the "m," and got "so,etimes," and the autocorrect converted that into "so,Erikestrada."

Strange that "Erik Estrada" would be in the autocorrect in the first place, though if it's using an internet search to autocorrect it might make sense.

re: The One and Only Shout! Studios (and Scream Factory!) Blu-ray Thread

SPECIES is excellent, the swansong of the great ALIENesque horror films of the '70s-80s. As so many others have stated, II is decent, watchable, and perhaps even worth owning. III and IV are complete garbage, cashgrabs, not worthy of any serious attention. And this is coming from one who actually loves these kinds of films.
