Retailers can organize all these re-releases together and promote them.

For what it's worth, Amazon now has the word "Remastered" in the title.

Even I hate to do this:

But, who knows. Disney often changes things at the last moment but I'm sure we someone would have heard of this being remastered since it can't be done in a matter of weeks.
Normally yes. In this case no. Disney has double checked for me
This is simply part of their Oscar promotion with a golden slipcover - Jeff Kleist (The Digital Bits)

DDL's performance in this makes me think of Larry David. Not that it's not a great performance, but he sounds David-ish.

HDD calls it "remastered" but they're likely taking cues from Amazon and whatnot and not the studio...

It would be pretty cruel to imagine that Disney is doing this on purpose, trying to sucker a few more purchases out of people by claiming it's remastered.

From Robert Harris (today):
I should add, if the above is true, there is no way Gangs will be a 'new' version by Feb 2. Most Blu-rays start to go into actual production 30-45 days before release date, so it would have to already be making it's way into production like now. Disney did send out the re-release of No Country for Old Men to reviewers, so its possible, if this is a 'new' disc, they will send it out as well as we should get the full answer in the next 3 weeks. No studio (to my knowledge) has sent out review copies for titles that simply got a new slip cover for marketing reasons.
I'm aware that you're quoting Disney (or Miramax), but they have no idea what they're reporting, as there have been no restorative efforts toward Gangs. This is not a restoration. The film is not in need of restoration -- merely a quality scan toward a resultant Blu-ray.
This brings to mind the laserdisc of the Disney "classic" The Little Mermaid, which arrived with a banner across the top of the album proclaiming something like "Now Fully Restored!". I was in Technicolor shortly thereafter, and asked what they had done to damage Disney's negative, and why there was no protection. I received a huge "huh?"
Restoration is a term of art, which unfortunately is overused and abused, generally by marketing people. It sounds great and adds a certain amount of "sizzle," even when it isn't necessary.
All that Disney needs to relate is "Now professionally and correctly brought to Blu-ray and DVD." As an aside, they owe the public a trade-in program once Gangs does appear with the quality that it deserves and deserved.

Now it is...now it isn't...now it is...now it isn't. I kinda like not knowing for sure. It makes the topic interesting. Especially if you count the now gone thread from yesterday, where there were a few "It's confirmed" responses.
Hey Gizmo, didn't you have one of those posts?

The Digital Bits reports today that the word from it's sources says that it will be a completely remastered edition that is being released on 2/22.

I already had my pre-order in. I like this film a lot. Yeah I'm a sucker and bought the last one because as heinous as it was, it was still better than the DVD. And unfortunately I went with the typically accurate assumption the studio wouldn't bother revisiting a catalog title like this so soon. Lesson learned.
