Re: District 9 - 12/29/09

On amazon right now, the BD version is $5 cheaper than the 2-disc DVD edition. That's a trend I would really like to see continue.

Re: District 9 - 12/29/09

I'll second that. Target and Walmart ads have BD for $19.99. 2 disc SD probably for $24.99. I love that!

I can't beleive people are willing to pay ten dollars more just for a slipcover. I can't even beleive Best Buy is doing that. I hope it is more than just a cardboard sleeve.

It's not a slipcover. It's a tiny MNU vest.

I just ended up getting D9 at Target for $14.99 on BD. The vest isnt worth the extra $15.

It also comes with a nice little booklet - $10 extra might still be a bit much for the vest and book, but it's not a complete rip off.

BTW, my BB only had 5 of these when they opened.

Dude, you own thousands of movies... I think it'll fit comfortably in with your collection, so yes.

My mom gave this to me today as an early Christmas gift, so that's pretty cool. I didn't know it came with the God of War III PS3 demo, so that's really cool as well.

It really has nothing to do with me owning that many movies, I wanted to know if it was worth buying the first week or not.

it's a solid flick that i'm sure you'll enjoy and since it'll only cost you $15 (target w/ $5 coupon) on release week, i'd say pick it up.

Well, the only one that can really determine that is you. It is one of the best movies of the yr (best sci fi in years)... and reviews of the blu-ray itself are great. Worth buying this wk? It's on sale this wk, but it's ok to wait if you're unsure.

I'm sorry I don't mean to single you out, I just don't understand when people ask this.

Re: District 9 - 12/29/09

I bought this today from Best Buy with the vest although I already have a copy on the way from CH from a previous buy 3 for 60 order. I guess I'll gift that one as I think the vest is cool and the book is a nice added bonus.

Re: District 9 - 12/29/09

having watched this and avatar on the same day, i have to wonder which is the front runner for the visual effects oscar. both integrated CGI into the story to the point that it was not obvious and did not interfere with plot progression.

Probably like the jacket that came with Grease and a few other Paramount DVDs (can't recall if they did that with BDs).

Well, I'm sort of glad I didn't buy the D9 BD steelbook at FS yesterday. It looks like that release is just disc one (no digital copy and no redemption code for the digital copy). I'll wait till the regular BD can be had for ~$10-15.

But by then there won't be any digital-copy either, since those are only a limited time deal, with codes that expire after a year and are usually only included in just the first couple pressings of the dvd/blu-rays.

That may be the case. But anyway, my point was that in buying the steelbook I'd be paying a premium just for the packaging and getting less content-wise than the standard release.

Well the steelbooks are going for $40 on ebay - so you could've made a nice little profit by selling it there.

Nah I'm not much of an e-bay guy, plus $30 Cdn plus 13% taxes doesn't equal much room for profit at a selling price of $40 :P
