So I have to make everything else louder (i.e. soundtrack) just to hear dialog? Some of us live in apartments/condos so I try and keep my volume at a set thing and turning it up louder will just make everything else louder.

No, it's the level of entire soundtrack that is adjusted by the dialnorm setting. If you can't hear the dialog, just turn up the center channel.

Re: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 10/20/09

I didn't really notice a problem. The thought the sound quality was fantastic along with one of the most immersive sound stages of any disc I own. I did notice I had it turned up a couple db higher than I typically do but that's not unusual. Most discs I watch at -25db, but many are down to -31 or up to -20. If I had turned it up louder than other discs I own I may have noticed, but it was just toward the louder end of the normal listening spectrum.

Remote? I mean, if the ENTIRE track is -4db, then just adjust the volume, and you'll be listening to it as if you were listening to the regular Blu-ray version at your normal setting. Again, remote?

I was under the impression the dialog was -4 while the soundtrack was still 0. I'll give the center channel increase a go.

Yes, it worked for me. But don't bother, it's extremely lame.

Is this confirmed? I thought it was the entire track to the film overall.

No, it's the whole track.

So then it is just a matter of turning it up? That doesn't sound like a problem.

I watched the Big Screen Edition on Wednesday and made no changes to my normal listening level, and the dialog was fine.

I plan to watch it this weekend with the volume very high, so it shouldn't be a problem...

Re: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 10/20/09

Think of it this way:

DTS doesn't usually use DialNorm, but Dolby does. That's why most DTS tracks are 4 dB louder than Dolby tracks.

On ROTF, the standard release doesn't use DialNorm, and is set for the typical DTS loudness. But for some reason the Walmart version does use DialNorm, which puts it at the volume of a typical Dolby track.

There's nothing wrong with either one. They just have different default volumes.

Glad I opted for the non-IMAX blu-ray.

At the very least I have finally learned what DialNorm is.

The Imax scenes looked really great. Too bad they didn't film the final battle entirely in Imax.

Wal-Mart "Big Screen Edition": Dialog?

So, I don't think this has anything to do with the dialnorm discussion going on right now, but I noticed that, on the back of the box, the Wal-mart version has the following bit of text:

Dialogue has been changed from the theatrical version.

What's that about??

The same notation is on the back of the box on the regular theatrical version as well....it is not specific to the Walmart "Big Screen Edition"....
A couple minor lines of dialogue were changed/added, but nothing of major importance....

You said it. I'm actually sorry I bought it. Regardless of how good it looks, you can't polish a turd.

We watched it on Tues. night with the kids for our family fun night film and aside from the hateful "twins", the Buscemi poodle, amorous dogs, Turturro's ass and Devastator's nuts, we really enjoyed it.

Re: Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen - 10/20/09

I don't feel like weeding through the Movie Talk thread for this but would love if someone could answer this for me.

Watched the film for the first time over the weekend. Is there a reason why the Constructicons make Devastator, but at various points you see not only Devastator moving about but the fully transformed robots that make up his body (ex. Mixmaster--Cement Truck) fighting in the same scene?

Oooh - first rule of Bay's Transfomers world - do NOT attempt to analyze any of it. You'll just want to throw the BD out the window. There's way too many headscratchers with this movie....you can question why didn't Shia just put the shard in Optimus either...or so many other things...
