Nick, it sounds to me like you have your channels reversed. That's the exact opposite of what you should be hearing.

I believe it's still in use. A variant I've seen is SAF (spouse acceptance factor).

theatrically, there's always been the notion and implementation of ceiling speakers firing sound down. I think test's with 'We Were Soldiers' was done that way.
I believe this was in Home Theater Magazine by Ron Rosberg. The article also talked about having 12 channels as being the best setup.

Nope. Never had any sort of audio issue prior to that. I enjoyed 5.1 and 6.1 movies without any problems. The connections were correct when I moved the surround speaker wires from the 5.1 rear terminals to the 7.1 surround back terminals.

Well, there's something wrong somewhere in your equipment chain. Because that's just not what 7.1 soundtracks sound like.
