Island of Lost Souls
Identification of a Woman Kuroneko The Four Feathers Eclipse Series 29: Aki Kaurismäki’s Leningrad Cowboys |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Very cool they threw in a couple titles for the Halloween season.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Apparently Dazed and Confused is also being updated on BR as well.

Seems like a great variety for October! |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm curious to see what the Kuroneko extras are - the MoC disc was bare-bones. Also in for Island and possibly Four Feathers. I still haven't gotten around to watching my Mr. Bongo disc of Identification, and I already have three Kaurismaki box sets, so I probably don't need a 4th, especially as the Leningrad Cowboys material doesn't particularly interest me.

Still no word on Three Colors Trilogy?

I'm thrilled and excited by the announcement for Masaki Kobayahi's Harakiri! That will be a definite purchase.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Definite buy: Dazed and Confused
Most Likey: Island of Lost Souls Salo (Yeah, I'm a weirdo) Might buy eventually: Harakiri Kuroneko |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
In for Island of Lost Souls. Can't wait!

Whatever happened to [i]Y Tu Mama Tambien[i]?
Is that still on Criterion's upcoming titles list? |

Anyway, it's not the most exciting of months - there's no real "stand out"/"must own immediately" titles, in my opinion - though I am quite excited for the Kaurismaki set and for the two horror films. I've heard mixed things about "Identification of a Woman," but since it's one of only three Antonioni films I haven't seen I'll at least have to give it a rental. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm definitely planning on Dazed And Confused and Island Of Lost Souls. The other titles will end up being ones I grab eventually.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Pretty solid month, suffice to say I'm most excited for Dazed & Confused. This and the Fear & Loathing release have made me a Spartacus believer.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Personally, I find this a very exciting month. Much more so than last month's announcements. Super excited to upgrade Salo & Dazed. My only disappointment was that Onibaba wasn't upgraded to pair with Kuroneko.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
"The Phantom Carriage" alone makes September a more exciting month for me - not to mention the two previously unavailable Chabrols.
Though after watching some of their music videos, I think "Leningrad Cowboys" might go on my "must pre-order immediately" list. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
It's a question of arty vs. pulpy. I like both, but do have an affinity for the pulp, therefore a horror heavy month resonates for me. Plus I love Dazed!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Man, I may have to get Island of Lost Souls. Haven't seen that in ages.
Y Tu Mama Tambien is very highly anticipated for me also. But of course not everything the CC announces makes it out when they say it will. We've still got two more months to go in 2011, but it may get bumped to next year. If the Criterion sale repeats in November as usual, I'm up to three forthcoming releases that will be must buys (Battle of Algiers and The Killing being the other two). EDIT: That IOLS cover art is pretty damn awesome. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
upgrading my dazed and confused!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I cant believe people arent more excited by Harakiri (although I realise MoC have already announced it too)!
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I just hope November is a bad month considering I will probably be getting quite a bit during that sale... I will upgrade Saló and Dazed and Confused, and get Island of Lost Souls too.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I can't believe that we're finally getting Island of Lost Souls!!! I've been hoping to get that movie for years after seeing a crappy VHS copy and the fact that it's on BD is simply awesome.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
oh so SALO is getting a bluray release afterall ! I'm still gonna pass and get the UK import since it's a smidgen longer cut of the film.

That's another one that I still haven't gotten around to watching the DVD of - maybe I'll sell it off and just buy the BD from B & N in November. I love the way that Criterion upgrades end up being basically free - sometimes I even make a few bucks.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm underwhelmed by the extras for Kuroneko, especially as Criterion has had the rights to it forever. I may just stick with my MoC. I guess they're saving The Game for November.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
more Antonioni on Blu. Glory.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Dazed & Confused and Salo? Nice! I didn't think there were any upgrades this go-round.
And I'm def in on Island of Lost Souls and Kuroneko. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Definitely in for Island of Lost Souls, probably Dazed, maybe Salo, don't need the others.
