While on the topic of price for Lynch flicks, Inland Empire is up for pre-order on Amazon.ca for $60...just the bluray. Not a 4k or anything.
That's probably the most expensive I've seen a single film Criterion bluray listed.

I guess only paid attention the early ones I was interested in, like Hard Eight. But they’ve only been doing discs for 2 years.

2.5 years, but yeah, I fudged a little bit. #29 (the last reissue besides Warriors) was Feb. 2021, 22 months ago.

Noticed most of the other Criterion pre-orders are also that price on Amazon.ca, but I'm assuming they'll all drop. Unobstructed View has most of them at $54 list, and pre-order pricing around $41. Still steep for any movie, but at least UV does Criterion flash sales (albeit at less of a discount, usually).

They've been such a headache for me this year (see earlier in this thread) and, now that they go have gone down to 40 per cent off, in some instances, it was actually cheaper to order from Amazon.com and ship to Canada. I got Citizen Kane and Barry Lyndon cheaper then it would have cost from UV.

Will get Fisher King. On the fence of Triangle. Seventh Seal was released by BFI in the UK and that edition was encoded by Fidelity in Motion (David M.), so I already know that edition is top tier and will most likely be better than CC's.

Very cool to see Small Axe get a physical release.
Seventh Seal... I may upgrade. But that'd be my third or fourth time buying it.
Triangle of Sadness... I wasn't a fan, though the third act was great. Would have preferred Force Majeure, but this makes sense given their partnership with Neon.

I've always thought that TARGETS deserved the treatment.

A cool note from the producer of Thelma and Louise’s making of documentary from the early DVD release.

Another Disney owned title? Interesting if true...

Del Toro's Nightmare Alley:
I attended a panel on Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio in Beverly Hills tonight. Afterwards, I got a moment with GDT and asked if the B&W version of Nightmare Alley is still getting released on disc because it doesn't look great on Hulu. He agreed with that and said, "It's coming from Criterion."

Pasolini 101

Coming in June, a major tribute to the Italian iconoclast Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most original and controversial thinkers of the 20th century.

Released in celebration of the 101st anniversary of Pasolini’s birth, this collector’s set provides an essential window onto a transformative period for an artist whose legacy remains a wellspring of freedom and revolutionary force. Including nine provocative, lyrical, often scandal-inducing films from the 1960s—Accattone, Mamma Roma, Love Meetings, The Gospel According to Matthew, The Hawks and the Sparrows, Oedipus Rex, Teorema, Porcile, and Medea—the decade in which this celebrated poet, novelist, and intellectual embarked on a feature filmmaking career, Pasolini 101 is a monument to the artist’s daring vision of cinema.

Also included: short films by Pasolini; archival interviews with filmmakers and scholars; documentaries on Pasolini’s life and career; deluxe packaging, including a 100-page book featuring an essay and notes on the films by critic James Quandt, and writings and drawings by Pasolini; and much more.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I was ready to be annoyed that the Servant was blu-ray only, but looking at the caps of the Studio Canal UHD, there's little to no extra detail when compared to the blu-ray. Hopefully the compression on the Criterion blu doesn't suck.

My dream Criterion release would be a box-set of Bunuel movies, similar to that Pasolini (or Bergman) set.
