I just meant to complete the Criterion set. Plus, the only special feature I really care about is the director commentary and I don't think the current BD has one.

Oh fuck yeah. I'm still irked how we never really got a SE of Barry Lyndon on DVD.

Bought my first Criterion Collection release ever today at B&N 50% off sale, naturally a BD and the last one they had: Fritz Lang's M.

I think I made a pretty good choice for a beginner of this apparently very addictive collection.

I probably won't double-dip on Hausu, but it should look extra insane in HD! In for Paths of Glory, and very excited to finally get a worthy edition of The Magician.

Nope. Just Bottle Rocket which was one of their first releases back in 2008 and now Darjeeling. Fantastic Mr. Fox thankfully got a BD release, but they passed on Darjeeling (I think it was during the time where Fox just stopped releasing Blu=rays for about 6 months).

I pre-ordered both, but the one I'm really looking forward to is Black Narcissus.

I think this kinds deserves to be in this thread and I don't wanna get chastized for starting a new thread.

Does anyone have a list of films that Criterion released on DVD or LD that have since been released on BR by another company?

Great Expectations has a region-free UK release from ITV. BFI have released Early Summer, Late Spring and Tokyo Story as region B discs.

I already had the UK Blu-Ray, so I know what that film looks like in HD. Red Shoes I've never seen before.

Would you also consider Blade Runner to be in that group?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Ok just going over the wikipedia page i know these films were released by CC on LD but not BR (or DVD either)
The Graduate
It's A Wonderful Life
Blade Runner
The Princess Bride
North By Northwest
Forbidden Planet
The Wizard Of Oz
2001: A Space Odyssey
The Adventures Of Robin Hood
Casablanca
Ghostbusters
Raging Bull
Close Encounters Of The Third Kind
Carrie
Dr. Strangelove
The Adventures Of Baron Manchausen
Akira
Jason And The Argonauts
Bram Stoker's Dracula
Menace II Society
Halloween
Boogie Nights

(these they released on DVD but not BR)
RoboCop
The Silence Of The Lambs
This Is Spinal Tap
Traffic
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Chasing Amy
The Killer

I am trying to compile a "complete criterion collection" with every film they released. I want the Blu-Ray of any movie they released on LD or DVD and the best DVD version of any movie they released that is not on BR

I watched The Red Shoes last night on bluray - and I was totally gobsmacked - the restoration is simply stunning. Even though the film was shot in 4:3, 35mm film, some of the scenes look so sharp they look almost 70mm 'crisp'

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Anyone know how to get replacement Criterion Blu-ray cases? I got Che in the mail today from the Barnes and Noble sale and when I opened it I discovered that one of the cases had a huge crack it in and a lot of the plastic was breaking off the case... I obviously don't want to keep the movie in a broken case.
