COME AND SEE is one of the most intense films I’ve ever, uhh, seen, just two-and-a-half hours of vented rage. I watched the Kino DVD from the library here several years ago and asked my Russia-born coworker the next day if she’d heard of it and her eyes widened as she gasped and fumed “ohhh my god zatt movie” (say that in a thick Russian accent), then told me all about how it was actually shown to her in school! Can’t remember what grade she said, but she vividly remembered not being prepared for the horrors it depicts and generally being devastated by it, along with her classmates and most other kids who saw it at the time. I presumed that that was the desired effect. It’s a phenomenal, epic work, though not one I thought I’d need to revisit, but now Criterion’s extras have got me thinking.

In for Keaton and Sciamma. POALOF is the only film I've seen of the 5. Cameraman is one of the rare Keaton's I've never seen. Love both covers.

I know there are great editions out there, but why Criterion never get ahold of Sergio Leone films? Fuck what they could do to No Name trilogy, Dynamite, West Was Won, ooohh, that would be cool!

From what I understand, Kino outbid them on the trilogy. Also Sergio Leone didn't direct How the West was Won. I assume you mean Once Upon a Time in the West. Which has a really good blu ray. I'd rather hold out for 4K with Leone at this point, than see Criterion end up with any of his films.

Most of Leone's Westerns were shot in Techniscope, which was a pretty low-quality format that only used half as much film negative as a typical 35mm production. Not sure how much benefit 4k encoding would really have.

Have any of you Criterion nerds seen this movie?
Criterion is putting out a new standalone release on June 23rd. This movie has been out of print for many years and is now getting a new DVD and BD release.
This is an Olympic documentary film about the 1968 games in Tokyo. I guess it's re-release was to coincide with the games that won't happen.
Just curious if anyone here saw it and if it's good. I do like films like this. I think this might also be on the Criterion Channel as well.

It was included as part of the 2017 box set too. It’d be worth it to try out the Criterion Channel to go through all the Olympic docs if it’s something you’re interested in. Would be a good summer binge to fill the void of no games.
