Ejecting and re-loading the disc seemed to clear it, but I've never had any issue like that on any BD I've owned or rented.
I did the eject and reload thing too, and it just says loading for a long time then says the disc is unplayable.

I know I'm at least one firmware version behind, so I'll try updating that tomorrow.

I was trying to remember if there were any other releases but Criterion hasn't broken up too many box sets.

I don't mind springing for the set. I don't believe Drive, He Said has ever been released on DVD. I had to look up Head... Seriously, a Monkees movie in the Criterion Collection?

Played with no issues on a Panny 35.

i'm guessing you've never seen HEAD...it fits quite well into the collection.

Well, going waaaaay back, the Samurai Trilogy titles were available separately... though now that I think about it, I believe they came out separately first and were only 'boxsetted' later, so perhaps they shouldn't count.

They still are available separately. It's one of those box sets that doesn't have a number to it. They have quite a few box sets like that. The ones that NoirFan is talking about are the box sets with spine numbers.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

criterion addresses the WALKABOUT manufacturing error (which i was unaware of): http://www.criterion.com/current/pos...acturing-error

We have been alerted to a manufacturing problem with our Walkabout Blu-ray edition that occurs on a limited number of players. The affected players are:

Sony BDP-350 and BDP-360
Pioneer BDP-05FD and BDP-120
Sharp BD-HP22U, BD-HP21U, and BD-HP20U
Memorex MVBD2520
Insignia NS-2BRDVD

The disc will not load in the Insignia and Memorex players, and with the others, about fifty minutes into the feature, the audio and video begin to skip and stutter. We are working with the pressing plant to resolve this issue as soon as possible. If you have our Walkabout Blu-ray disc and own one of these players, please e-mail Jon Mulvaney so that we can notify you as soon as replacement copies become available.

From the Criterion Forum:
Overheard Lee Kline talking last night at the Criterion event for "Mystery Train" at the Wexner Center in Columbus. He said that "The Thin Red Line" will, indeed, be the theatrical cut, with "some deleted scenes," the content of which he didn't seem to specify. Pretty sure he also said it was coming in November.

That's too bad. I think Terrence Malick is probably too busy with the Tree of Life to contribute to re-editing the possible/rumored 4 hour cut.

Still....Fuck...I mean...I'd rather wait a very long time knowing that he'd be working on it after he's done w/ his film.

I really didn't expect anything other than the theatrical cut for TTRL. It was Malick's cut, so I'm happy with it. Just glad this is coming to Blu-Ray, and via Criterion makes it the icing on the cake.

I wouldn't have minded maybe 20 additional minutes, but I really didn't want something longer that would've substantially changed the movie...so I'm happy about the theatrical. I do hope they include a generous amount of deleted scenes though...

Jesus. That Rialto DVD boxset (this one) will likely become pretty darn expensive at some point.

Jesus. A little more notice would be nice. Now I have a ton of stuff that recently went out of print and stuff that is about to that I would like to get . I hope this is the last of the attrition for a while.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

How do Criterion DVDs (not BD) fare on the used market? I know you can't get anything for regular studio DVDs, but do Criterions still have some sort of special value?

I really want to trim down my overall collection and get a few Criterion BDs, and I have a bunch of Criterion DVDs I could get rid of (if there's demand) - including 5 on this soon-to-be-OOP list.

I've got all of those except Chambermaid and Phantom. Looks like DD has the best price (though still expensive at $18.35), since they're not even on sale at Planet, but both are OOS. I wonder how likely my order is to be fulfilled.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

For those who don't have any of the Bunuels, the R2 Optimum box set includes all of the Studio Canal titles and may be your best option:
CET OBSCUR OBJET DU DESIR, DISCREET CHARM OF THE BOURGEOISIE, DIARY OF A CHAMBERMAID, PHANTOM OF LIBERTY, MILKY WAY, TRISTANA, LA JOVEN and BELLE DE JOUR.
It's currently 47% off, or £23.97 before VAT from Amazon. It's also got a solid stack of extras, listed here. Offhand, I'm not sure how they compare to the Criterions, in terms of either extras or transfers.
