But I noticed that some BDs that had specific cardboard packaging are now in their regular plastic BD cases, the ones that CC uses. Was browsing and I saw Tess in regular CC packaging.

How long has that been?

Been going on for a while now, although I'm not certain what timeframe. The last one I got in a cardboard case was The Last Emperor which was around 3-4 years ago. But if you buy a movie that's still in a cardboard case, Criterion does have standard plastic case replacements you can buy for a cheap price.

Fall of 2014 would have been the earliest they started. They were still using slips and digigpacks for just released titles like Scanners during the summer sale.

Criterion is no longer doing the combo pack thing so titles like Tess that had 3 discs (1 Blu & 2 DVD's) have been repackaged and are now sold separately.

Just took me off guard cuz I already have Tess in its original packaging but seeing it in a BD case weirded me out.

Yesterday I got 3 more. Tootsie, Time Bandits, and Limelight. It's an interesting trio to get. So weird. Hahaha.

The week before I got The Killers set, Rosemary's Baby, and Hidden Fortress.

I didn't jive w/ The Killers. I liked the older one the most but I just didn't care for them. They're not bad, I just didn't care for them. The Lee Marvin one has an obsession w/ flashbacks. Damn thing has long as fuck flashbacks. I'm guessing I can sell it for the exact price. To make up for my loss. I've never been as displeased w/ anything I've gotten from CC but this one just didn't do anything for me. I was bored as hell.

Don't Look Back (1967) Bob Dylan documentary would be my guess.

So the MGM release is the way to go. I wonder why/how Criterion jacked the picture up this much.

Apparently the squishing starts after the 21 minute mark. Criterion's initial response was that De Palma supervised the transfer but they've been quiet about it since the reviews came out. I'm not optimistic that they're going to do anything but they should. It's a shame because it sounds like the detail is fantastic on this transfer compared to the others.

DePalma has narcolepsy so i am guessing he fell asleep after 21 minutes of supervision.

Have these hit store shelves yet? The only one I noticed repackaged was Night of the Hunter. I would love to sell off my 3-disc digis of Fantastic Fox, Jules et Jim, etc., and replace them with clear keepcases.

Outside of the original releases in those thin digipacks, there have only been four blu-ray digipacks that have been replaced with keepcases:

The Leopard
The Night of the Hunter
Tess
Foreign Correspondent

I sort of agree but I don't like the thickness of the dual format ones.

Red River is a massive fuck.

I prefer the size and uniformity of the standard keep-cases. These will also hold up better over time.

Have you seen Picnic at Hanging Rock: The Complete Series?

It does contain the novel, as does Picnic at Hanging Rock.

I have digipacks that are more than 15 years old that are holding up just fine, in fact, better than many old amaray cases that have started to wrinkle/warp. They're no different that books that can last multiple lifetimes if handled properly.

I think there's more than that. Two Lane Blacktop comes to mind. I think there are even more that have dropped the dvds, but simply changed from a 2 disc keep case to a 1 disc case. Throne of Blood comes to mind. There are also a handful of dvd titles which have changed packaging over the years, although my guess is that no one cares about those. Presumably all of the dual-format will switch to separate formats whenever their initial print runs are up. However, there's no way to know when that will be.

I like the diversity between the digipacks and keepcases. The only set that will not and can't fit on my shelves is Zatoichi.
