I think it will be EXTREMELY disappointing if they do not work with him to create an ultimate director's cut of this film, no matter how long it ends up being. It absolutely needs to happen. That's really the only reason for Criterion to even bother releasing it, honestly: so they can do it the right way.

Yes, although it would be nice to get some extra features, if they don't release a director's cut, it will be a very disappointing missed opportunity.

I imagine that with their shorter release date windows these days (from date of a teaser/announcement), most of what they intend to do with Malick is already done. I, too, hope that we get a director's cut.

Mystery Train is my favorite Jarmusch, so I'm definitely in for that, though the extras look a bit thin. Still, I wasn't even expecting a HD release. Big thumbs-up on The Leopard and Red Desert. Hopefully The Red Shoes will be coming in July.

Holy.
Criterion's been hitting 'em out of the park more often than not with their Blu-Ray announcements. Too bad they're almost $40 CAD each. Brutal pricing in Canada.

Very nice Criterion. 2010 is shaping up nicely.
Also, for those that don't read the DVD Talk forum anymore (like me), Kiarostami's Close Up was announced along with Everlasting Moments and Night Train to Munich.

Criterion just added "Close-Up" and "Everlasting Moments" to the blu-ray list now. That's FIVE blu-rays for June!

Criterion Blu-Ray BADLANDS would be right up there with Criterion Blu-Ray À BOUT DE SOUFFLE in awesomeness.
Not sure if this is the right place to mention it, but apparently Milos Foreman has been contacted by Criterion to be part of an upcoming TAKING OFF release. Amazing of them to be the ones to untangle the music rights for a first-ever home video release after 40 years.

I really hope so. I've always been very curious about it. This movie should look beautiful in High Definition.
I always liked how this movie came out the same year as Saving Private Ryan, while all my friends were raving about that movie, I was like you should see The Thin Red Lion it's way better, man.

It looks like the Pierrot le fou BD is back up for order on Amazon, says "in stock on April 3, 2010".
