Wouldn’t say no to that. But I thought I had a nice Digibook Edition that was loaded...

If they aren't going to have Godzilla have a spine number like the other box sets but still plan on releasing it then I would be happy with 1000 being Pink Flamingos.

Spine 1000 could be a montage of every time Donald Trump took a dump in the White House, but if it were UHD 4K, I'd still be over the moon.

If it were Wes Anderson taking a dump, I would believe it. Criterion releases anything he does for some reason.

I guessed that they could announce #1,000 to be a UHD-BD title (whether a title they've done before, or a new title on all 3 formats).
Criterion released their first BD title 2.5 years after the first BD title was released on the market, and it's been almost 3.5 years since the first UHD-BD title was released.
If figure if Criterion doesn't announce support for the format at this point, then it'll never come. The format is just too niche for an already niche collection.

I'm sure the would if they could for the last couple of movies. Criterion needs to stop releasing movies that already have a good Blu-Ray release. So many movies they need to tackle that aren't available on the format, or are available but have poor quality.

According to this post, Mo' Better Blues is coming to Blu-ray, but no idea if Criterion is handling it.

I know that Kino has several Spike Lee films coming, and they're struggling to get him to provide commentaries.

DUNE!

Are you just blue skying, or is that an educated guess?

Not sure what else Criterion could add, unless they could do a high def transfer of the extended cut with *all* the deleted footage restored.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

total blue skying. :)
I would imagine that if Criterion managed to work out a deal and have Lynch involved, he'd demand that the extended cut and most/all deleted footage be kept OFF the release. He had no fondness for all that, as I recall.

He has no fondness for the movie period. Even if Criterion wanted to do it, Lynch would not participate, and I think that would be enough to dissuade them.

I think a bare-bones 4k release through Universal is more likely.

That may be, and I do appreciate the extraordinary effort Criterion makes for its releases, but if I'm not interested in a film based on its genre, premise, and reviews, I won't watch it. As it stands, there's already more than a lifetime's worth of films that do pique my interest to seek out and watch, most of them not officially available to view.

I picked up Fox's "All About Eve" Blu-ray for next-to-nothing a few years back, and it has all the features this one has (it's packed!). Much like "Blue Velvet", it'll depend if they produce those legacy features in HD rather than Fox's SD, and if there's some significant improvement in the PQ.

Recently watched Cold War on Amazon. It was in 4K and looked fantastic. I thought the movie was great, but knowing I can watch it in 4K means I'll probably skip the Criterion BD.

Don't think I need anything else from this batch

Looks like we Canadians may finally see some less-ridiculous prices on Criterion releases, as Criterion will now have a Canadian distributor.

Toronto: Criterion Collection Lands Canadian Distributor

It'll still be overpriced, but maybe we could see more Criterion BDs for less than $40 now.

Interesting!

It is insane how much more expensive CC stuff is, on Amazon Canada.

I hope this really does remedy the discrepancy.

Just received my email with the December titles listed.
Really looking forward to checking out the 287 minute (wow!) director's cut of Wim Wenders' "Until the End of the World."

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

That's a big-ass release in terms of minutes.
To be honest, I was somewhat underwhelmed with it. It was ambitious and was decent - but there were just many boring parts. It could've easily been trimmed by an hour or more.

Speaking of boring, I see "Old Joy" is a December title. I almost slipped into a coma watching that.

The one film by Wim Wenders I’ve seen, which was Paris, Texas I really liked a lot. His filmography doesn’t seem accessible to my taste generally though.
