Criterion's almost averaging one major studio title announcement per month.

My thoughts exactly, but happy as hell to see it. I’d love to hear commentaries from Costner, Sarandon, and Robbins this time.

At this point I wouldn't rule out them adding something like BTTF to the collection.

I know Criterion’s hints are usually pretty crude pictures but that’s the shittiest drawing of a car I’ve ever seen.

When I've let my mind wander about Star Wars and Criterion, I've wondered if Criterion would be willing to license spine# 1977 to Disney/LFL for a Bluray release of the theatrical cuts of the Holy Trilogy.

I know they would sell like gangbusters even without it, but it would be a nice tip of the hat to the SW contribution to cinema.

But anyways, was thinking about the Silence of the Lambs release, it's really the only pending title on my wishlist of Criterions right now, are there any issues that would make one hesitate to get it?

Other than agreeing with you, I'll say hat I would also be happy if Disney put some real effort into their own restoration. I still hold out hope that when this new trilogy is complete, and if the Fox rumors become reality, they will put out a proper Complete Saga set

None at all. All around fantastic release. And FTR, I thought the NOLTD disc is just as good. Far surpasses the previous restorations.

Thanks for the thoughts on Lambs, I’ll get that and with my three different DVDs of Manhunter, my Hannibal collection will be complete.

I’m sure it is, but I can’t bring myself to part with my Anchor Bay 2 disc set. I got the Divimax remaster disc and then I found the theatrical cut from the box set by itself at a thrift store and I’m pretty proud of my little collection now.

Sorry for the sidetrack, back to spine numbers :)

“Terry doesn’t see this as a director’s cut,” says Criterion president Peter Becker, who insists that the 139-minute theatrical version is the official “director’s cut” and remains the centerpiece of the Blu-Ray edition. “It’s a fresh view of the film that has a different rhythm and a different balance.

Considering I've always wondered if this would ever even get a Blu-ray release, I'm really happy with this news.

Have to admit, when I first saw this I was hoping that it was the Warren Beatty version of Heaven Can Wait...Oh well, hopefully some company eventually releases that...But if we're talking movies involving football (which plays a role in the Beatty film), it would be awesome if Criterion got the rights to something like North Dallas Forty...I love that movie...And if we're talking Beatty movies, I'm praying for a Blu-Ray release of Shampoo...That could be a loaded Criterion and would make my day...They could have all sorts of interviews/featurettes with Beatty, Christie, and Robert Towne...

Criterion released Shampoo on Laserdisc back in the day, so someone there did once consider the movie to be in their wheelhouse.

Hm. Didn't know that. I guess there's hope then...I just have an awful feeling that it's the type of movie Twilight Time might get their hands on...I know they released The Last Detail (which, like Shampoo, was a Columbia DVD release), which I begrudgingly bought, despite the ridiculous price...Twilight Time won't do the movie justice the way Criterion would...It's just a shame that Carrie Fisher passed away, as she probably could've given a decent interview about her time on the set...

I don't mind Malick making "extended" versions of his movies...I actually enjoyed all three cuts of The New World...But if he's willing to re-edit these films with all of that extra footage, you would've thought he would've done the same to The Thin Red Line...After all, there's all sorts of stories about this famous actor and that famous actor whose scenes were cut...While I felt that movie was long enough, I wouldn't mind seeing an additional hour added to that, so long as we got to see the various actors that were ultimately cut...That said, I'm not saying I'd welcome a re-release of something like that, as it would cut into my budget...I'm just surprised that he releases these extended cuts for The New World and Tree of Life, but not that one...

I hope he never releases extended cuts of his last three movies, as I pretty much hated every one of them...Especially To The Wonder...Tree of Life was his last great movie...
