It's OOP. This one might be slightly cheaper though: https://www.ebay.com/itm/125456960457
Will keep my eye out for more lower cost ones, though. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The one with the slip is now OOP. Imprint usually re-releases without the slip.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I came close to picking up the Straight Story, but since I own the VHS & dvd and it’s also streaming on D+, I decided I’d hold out for a Criterion.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I got mine for $10 from DeepDiscount. Wouldn’t be surprised if it drops to that again at some point.

While on the topic of price for Lynch flicks, Inland Empire is up for pre-order on Amazon.ca for $60...just the bluray. Not a 4k or anything.
That's probably the most expensive I've seen a single film Criterion bluray listed. |

Actually, they usually don't. Looking on their website, they've only reprinted 11 of their titles with a "Standard Edition", and 10 of those were spine #29 or lower. The Warriors is the only one in the last 2 years to get a Standard Edition, so it's unlikely that The Straight Story will get one at this point.

Noticed most of the other Criterion pre-orders are also that price on Amazon.ca, but I'm assuming they'll all drop. Unobstructed View has most of them at $54 list, and pre-order pricing around $41. Still steep for any movie, but at least UV does Criterion flash sales (albeit at less of a discount, usually).

Triangle of Sadness... YES!

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I guess The Fisher King is getting a UHD re-release:

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
April 2023:
Triangle of Sadness (UHD, Blu, DVD): https://www.criterion.com/films/3353...gle-of-sadness Small Axe (Blu): https://www.criterion.com/boxsets/6517-small-axe UHD upgrades: The Seventh Seal: https://www.criterion.com/films/173-the-seventh-seal The Fisher King: https://www.criterion.com/films/28719-the-fisher-king |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Will get Fisher King. On the fence of Triangle. Seventh Seal was released by BFI in the UK and that edition was encoded by Fidelity in Motion (David M.), so I already know that edition is top tier and will most likely be better than CC's.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Very cool to see Small Axe get a physical release.
Seventh Seal... I may upgrade. But that'd be my third or fourth time buying it. Triangle of Sadness... I wasn't a fan, though the third act was great. Would have preferred Force Majeure, but this makes sense given their partnership with Neon. |

I've always thought that TARGETS deserved the treatment.

All of them except Thelma and Louise will be in 4K SDR only.

A cool note from the producer of Thelma and Louise’s making of documentary from the early DVD release.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
In for some T&L for sure.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Another Disney owned title? Interesting if true...
Del Toro's Nightmare Alley: I attended a panel on Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio in Beverly Hills tonight. Afterwards, I got a moment with GDT and asked if the B&W version of Nightmare Alley is still getting released on disc because it doesn't look great on Hulu. He agreed with that and said, "It's coming from Criterion." |

https://s3.amazonaws.com/criterion-p...VNgx_large.jpg Pasolini 101 Coming in June, a major tribute to the Italian iconoclast Pier Paolo Pasolini, one of the most original and controversial thinkers of the 20th century. Released in celebration of the 101st anniversary of Pasolini’s birth, this collector’s set provides an essential window onto a transformative period for an artist whose legacy remains a wellspring of freedom and revolutionary force. Including nine provocative, lyrical, often scandal-inducing films from the 1960s—Accattone, Mamma Roma, Love Meetings, The Gospel According to Matthew, The Hawks and the Sparrows, Oedipus Rex, Teorema, Porcile, and Medea—the decade in which this celebrated poet, novelist, and intellectual embarked on a feature filmmaking career, Pasolini 101 is a monument to the artist’s daring vision of cinema. Also included: short films by Pasolini; archival interviews with filmmakers and scholars; documentaries on Pasolini’s life and career; deluxe packaging, including a 100-page book featuring an essay and notes on the films by critic James Quandt, and writings and drawings by Pasolini; and much more. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/dvdtalk...c5a2217fd2.jpg |

Oh wow. I think I may have to get that Pasolini set.
(glad it doesn't have Salo!) |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I was ready to be annoyed that the Servant was blu-ray only, but looking at the caps of the Studio Canal UHD, there's little to no extra detail when compared to the blu-ray. Hopefully the compression on the Criterion blu doesn't suck.
|
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
My dream Criterion release would be a box-set of Bunuel movies, similar to that Pasolini (or Bergman) set.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
French company releasing the 4K of The Heroic Trio and The Executioners.
When will the announcement be for the Criterion here? |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Steelbooks, no less. I'm sure it won't be too many more years now.

Largest UHD month to date?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
Wow. After Hours and One False Move are two of the biggest "Criterion will get around to these someday" titles.
And a Ranown box set? I was just watching through my Indicator set again and lamenting just how bad the old masters in that set look. I'm a little disappointed Criterion couldn't secure Seven Men From Now, but I assume Warner Archive will get to it eventually. |

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I'm happy After Hours is finally coming out and I love that cover!
However, after the long wait of this release I was hoping Crtierion would have produced new bonus material. New interviews and a recently made documentary would have been icing on the cake. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
The bonus content on One False Move is really light. Basically just a new interview with Franklin and Thornton.
The commentary is 23 years old from the old DVD release. I am looking forward to Thelma and Louise on 4K once that gets on sale. |
re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread
I get One False Move mixed up with A Simple Plan - both have Paxton and Thornton.
