I need to upgrade my copy of Traffic. But I'll be keeping the DVD since it's autographed by Soderbergh.

Same here - I have the ITV Lean box, but this should represent a welcome upgrade. I much prefer Lean's early, smaller-scale works to his glossy late-period epics.

Are you talking about the "Director Approved" sticker with his signature? Yeah, mine is autographed as well.

Outdated DVD packaging

I love those old checklists, it happens to me with old Blue Underground DVDs too. "Upcoming: Salon Kitty on DVD"

Way OT: The funniest outdated thing I ever found inside a DVD case was in a copy of Ang Lee's Hulk I acquired from a DVD swapping site. Bless the previous owner(s), for they left in a Visa credit card promotion where you could get a credit card with the Hulk on its face. Alas, the expiration date was nearly a decade old. I still wonder who would have taken up that offer. The film was not a success, so I can't imagine it having the same effect as, say, Dark Knight credit cards (like Joker, banks "don't care about money", right?).

At least they kept the classic Janus Films logo.
Off topic, man, I wish this and Flesh For Frankenstein would come back into print and get a blu-ray.

I'd like to know, as well. I talked to Paul Morrissey at a Blood for Dracula screening he presented maybe 15 years ago. It's stunning how good a movie he produced when you understand that, over the entire course of production, he was staying up all night, every night, writing the pages he would shoot the subsequent day.

The last time they were released on DVD Image put them out, so I would guess Image is the current rights holder.

There were reissued on DVD by Image Entertainment in 2005. They were pretty easy to find... okay, looks like those have gone out of print. I just checked Amazon though and they have Image's Flesh For Frankenstein for $9.11. And yes, Image's DVDs are anamorphic, not matted (and they ported over Criterion's audio commentary).

---Hmm, I just checked Image Entertainment's web site. They still list Flesh For Frankenstein, but Blood For Dracula doesn't turn up. So maybe they only currently have the rights for Frankenstein?

Any idea why Amazon doesn't have the latest batch up for pre-orders yet? I feel it comes faster than this normally.

Aren't you going to get them from B & N during the summer 50% sale?

I'll pre-order them *just* in case of an odd price-drop like Anatomy of a Murder, but I also want to budget them as part of June (I have an odd way of doing things sometimes) so that I can spend more on old releases in July.

I plan on picking up 39 Steps, Lean/Coward, The Gold Rush, Harold and Maude, Summer Interlude, Summer with Monika, and whatever I'm interested in from the April titles.

I'll be getting Being John Malkovich, La Haine, Harold & Maude, The 39 Steps, Shallow Grave and Gold Rush for sure. Then I have to decide on what older titles I want to catch up on.

Watched THE WAR ROOM over the weekend and thought it was great. Probably one of my all-time favorite docs.

Naturally, Netflix doesn't carry the Blu-ray. I'm surprised they even offer the DVD, as they've ceased stocking new Criterion releases almost entirely.

Criterion put this up on their youtube channel. Are they putting this on BD anytime soon?

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Eddie Coyle would be great. I have the DVD but would consider upgrading.

There is just too much desirable stuff coming out these days. Each Criterion sale, I mean to catch up with older releases (and I usually do buy a couple), but there are always a bunch of newer titles I really have to grab. So it goes...

I dearly hope so, but the DVD was released not very long ago, so they may just be catching up. I still don't know why they didn't release it on BD when the DVD came out.
