Unless you plan on re-watching the shit out of it, why would anyone buy the movie-only edition of Blue is the Warmest Color?

Looks like the list price will be $24.95, so price might play into it.

And I've never paid list price a day in my life for any movie. If it's list at $24.95 - it will be $14.95 - $19.95 via Amazon or CC's site.

Well frack me. John Huston was friends with the previous owner of my house and I'm told spent a lot of time in the basement room that is now my home theater.

I feel like I need that, but I don't even want to guess how much it will sell for. :)

The person who wins this is going to pay major $ and they couldn't throw in the blu-ray of the film instead of the DVD???!!!

Based on today's newsletter clue, I'm guessing Midnight Cowboy is in the cards?

I expected it to sell for a large amount but I was shocked by the result. You can see it on the link.

Midnight Cowboy seems to be the consensus.

I'm a bit surprised by Midnight Cowboy. The blu-ray release is still fairly recent, even if the transfer could have been improved.

I WANT MULHOLLAND DR. DAMMIT! Maybe screaming it will make it happen? I'm just hoping that if it wasn't already in the works when they posted the instructions for projectionists from Lynch on their tumblr, that the overwhelming positive response it got will have geared them towards a release.

I'll stick with my more than good enought MGM version of Midnight Cowboy.

Would be hilarious if that clue wound up being something totally unexpected and unlikely, like Willard. :)

With the right cover art, I bet they'd dupe more than a few Criterion completists into buying that and leaving it on their movie shelves unwatched, assuming that it's some Neo-Realist masterpiece they have no intention of actually watching. :)

Just heads up. Amazon will have a few older Criterion blu's in their Black Friday deals on Saturday. Cheaper than B&N's 50% sale. Even better deal with Amazon Visa and/or Prime shipping.

Maybe it's something, maybe it's nothing, but I found the following while aimlessly browsing Amazon's instant video site yesterday:

Perhaps a harbinger of what's to be announced on Monday? Maybe a sneak preview of some really shitty coverart? Or (probably) just nothing?

dear god, I hope that isn't the art for scanners

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

I'm pretty sure those turned up ages ago on Criterion's Hulu+ channel. Given that Scanners also appeared in the New Years clue last year, it's pretty much a forgone conclusion that Criterion will be releasing some Cronenberg in the near future.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

in terms of the Brood - the MGM DVD is an uncut version that technically shouldn't have a 'R-rating' since it features gore that was cut to get said rating.

hanshotfirst1138 12-10-13 11:08 AM

I wonder if that was a mistake on MGM's part that just serendipitously wound up being in our favor for once or what.

Ah, Cronenberg, so deserving of being in the Criterion Collection. Though Scanners isn't one of his best films, wish someone would release Shivers again.

Oh yeah, I assume most people in the thread were aware those movies were forthcoming, but it's just that some were expecting them to be announced already, like several months ago. I posted the screenshots as possible proof they were going to be announced very soon, perhaps next week.

Criterion put Eraserhead on Hulu about a year ago. Still no Blu-ray announcement.

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

Has that film ever had any Blu-Ray release? I saw it was being show as part of a midnight movies thing nearby, but I didn't know if it was a genuine DCP or just a projected disc.

GreenVulture 12-10-13 06:07 PM

re: The Criterion Collection 4K/Blu-ray Discussion and Release Thread

What, Eraserhead? Sure, it's part of the UK Lynch box set and is one of the few good things in that shitty package (I think you can also purchase it on its own).

It also had a separate release in Japan, not sure about the rest of the world.
