9/11/2012 -- The Sound and the Fury, Steel Magnolias

It doesn't just include the alternate ending, it includes it in fully restored color, and completed. In fact, the disc will offer a director's cut of the film using that original ending. The theatrical version will also be on the disc.

The original ending was not completed when it was scrapped from the film (the Statue Of Liberty shot the most obvious), so WB actually has gone back and finished the effects using notes from Frank Oz and others involved with the film as their guide.

Odd choice for a release. I caught this a couple months ago on TCM; it didn't impress me much.

As cool as it was to see the alt ending, I kinda felt dirty after watching it. It felt like the snuff film version, incredibly depressing.

16x9 isn't the right ratio, is it?

I believe they did an HD transfer of an open matte...so you'll lose some on the top and bottom, but gain on the sides. They're doing something quite similar with SEINFELD, which I expect we'll see an announcement for this time next year. I'll probably hang on to my DVDs to have the original broadcast ratio, and buy these (if/when the price is right) for the A/V quality.

I'll gladly pay $200 for this set and I expect it to be in that range. At 40% off it would be around $170.

Sigh. I wasn't a fan of Friends, but I was hoping Seinfeld wouldn't receive this fate.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

My wife will sit and watch the edited syndicated versions but won't bother putting in any of the DVD's I bought for her. I'd love to upgrade since i liked this series but won't bother since they won't get used.
