"1080p High-Definition Widescreen 1.33:1"? Someone didn't proofread the specs template before printing it.

"He is soon living the high life... but soon the idyll is not all it seems." Apparently, copy editing also was not in the budget for this release.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

Doesn’t that mean the 1.33 image is pillarboxed inside the 16x9 frame? I think I’ve seen that before on other releases like this.

God, I hope not. Your description sounds like what stuff looked like back in the old non-anamorphic DVD days.

4:3 material has to be presented in pillarbox for HD, because the native resolution of HD material is 16:9. It's still 1080p, but since there's nothing outside of the 4:3 image, the black pillars are encoded into the image, like how 2.35:1 material is presented in a 16:9 frame with black bars at the top and bottom.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

I find it odd that Disney is re-release Jungle Book and Snow White but no 4K releases for them in sight

I know a re-release is low hanging fruit - unless they have some huge campaign for classic 4K titles they are working on

They both appear on the movie club, I am unsure if they will have wide release (just Googled and didn't find anything)

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

News of great interest to me and...well, hopefully at least some of you!

Deaf Crocodile, in association with distribution partner Seagull Films, announced today the acquisition of a trio of celebrated Russian titles. The companies will jointly release 4K restorations of famed Russian fantasy filmmaker Aleksandr Ptushko’s stunning 1956 medieval epic ILYA MUROMETS (THE SWORD & THE DRAGON), and his mystical 1959 Finnish/Soviet co-production SAMPO (THE DAY THE EARTH FROZE), as well as a 2K restoration of director Karen Shakhnazarov’s 1988 Kafkaesque satire ZEROGRAD (ZERO CITY). ILYA MUROMETS and ZEROGRAD will be released in collaboration with legendary Russian studio Mosfilm, which restored them recently. SAMPO has been restored by KAVI – the Finnish National Audiovisual Institute. All three films will be released in summer 2022 theatrically, digitally, and on home video as part of an ongoing “Russian Fantastika” collection, working with Deaf Crocodile’s partner Grasshopper Films for digital release and OCN / Vinegar Syndrome for Blu-ray release.

I wasn't sure we'd ever see the legal hiccups for this get untangled! Coming from Scorpion Releasing and now up for preorder at Diabolik:

Includes a trailer and an isolated score.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV

A very early Simpson and Bruckheimer movie from the 1980s. I hope they release the "Unrated" version. Very hot love scene with Barbara Williams and Steven Bauer. For those who never saw this movie, she played a neglected housewife and Bauer played a thief who broke into her house and discovered her secret intimate diary. Then he romances her and they start banging. I haven't seen this since VHS, but it's a pretty hot movie for it's time.
