Blu-ray release announcements - Part IV
I wish that they would have negotiated for Criterion's extras from the long-OOP DVD release releases, but I think the only company who has been successful at doing so is Anchor Bay.

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part III
I'm pretty sure a couple other companies have been able to get Criterion's extras from them other than Anchor Bay....The Rock Blu-ray (from Disney) carried over almost all of the Criterion extras....I'm pretty sure Sony licensed some former Criterion extras for one of their Monty Python DVDs (Holy Grail I think)....also, the upcoming new edition of Do The Right Thing from Universal looks like it is carrying over a lot of what was on the Criterion DVD release....

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part III
I mentioned Anchor Bay because them getting the Criterion commentary with John Carpenter for a release of Halloween was the main case I could think of, as for *years* Criterion was notorious for not licensing their extras.
They still never put such a deal in place with MGM, though, which is why none of the extras from Robocop, Silence Of The Lambs, or Sid And Nancy, amongst others, were ported over to them.

I think the Civil War series by Ken Burns was one of the best documentaries ever made. Certainly a sterling addition to my collection. I wonder how that would look in HD and if that is in the works?

There might be some reluctance now to release 1.33:1 material. We haven't seen much other than classic films. They may want to wait until people get more accustomed to pillarboxing.
Then again, maybe they can do like Disney did with Pinocchio and have decorative artwork. Perhaps they can put the Union and Confederate flags on each side?

^ I would assume the Menace II Society bluray is the unrated cut (that was released as such on laserdisc from Criterion).

Re: Blu-ray release announcements - Part III
The one at releaselists.com, although it doesn't cite a source. It just says it's a confirmed 9/1 date and that the August date's off now. I guess by the same token, I could make up a 9/15 date and say it's confirmed, but...
