I saw Watchmen at the movies and thought it was great and I never read the graphic novel. I want the movie but I don't know which release to buy. If the Ultimate Edition would come with all 3 cuts, I'd get that. If it only has the longest version with Black Freighter footage, I think I would get the DC.

Yeah, I completely agree, I don't think I will be doubling dipping on this one if there is no seamless branching or theatrical options....
From that flyer, it looks like the Ultimate Edition will be just this DC version with the animated TFTBF inserted in spots throughout, but no indication of any other additional live-action footage....considering I just picked up the TFTBF/UTH Blu-ray Disc for $5 (along with Watchmen DC and a free BD thanks to the WBshop deal), and I have no interest in the "Complete Motion Comic", I think I'll just stick with having them separate....

Does anyone know of any retail stores doing a midnight launch for Watchmen? I'm just curious.

Doubtful, it wasn't that popular.

I want the Amazon edition. I'm hoping the price drops on it over the next month or so (hopefully it doesn't get sold out).

I know MovieStop is, at least they've been advertising it.

I actually ordered it today. Especially seen as Amazon.ca has it listed at $69.99 Cdn and Amazon.com has it at $74.99 US. I finally cracked, before it gets corrected.

There will be live-action interludes of the two Bernies that will send us in and out of the Black Freighter content, just like in the comic.

One of them appears to be in the greater Dallas/Ft.Worth area, and I just happen to be heading there on a business trip on Sunday. If I get a chance, I'll probably go on an evening during the week.

LAME - you'd think that with DLP and "alternate entertainment" to entice people into the theatre, Warner's would have made this more accessible to the fans - I would have loved to have see the director's cut on the big screen.

It could also be that it was in Snyder's contract that he gets the DC out to the theaters so Warner decided to cheap out.

To be honest, I can understand the business logistics of only releasing it on a few screens rather than a many. Most people who are waiting for the Director's Cut at this point are waiting for the DVD or BD, most aren't going to spend $10 to see it in theaters when they'll be spending $10 more to snag the flick on a physical media.

If this came out a few weeks (or months) prior to the video release, I'm sure Warner could gather up enough anticipation and promotion for this to be worthy of more than just a four-screen release, but even if this was playing at a theater near me, I'd skip it since the Blu-ray release is just in a few days.

Just got the email about the live chat with Zach Snyder from Comic Con. Why are they starting this at 12:30 am for people on the East coast? I don't care if it's a Saturday night, that puts this at 3:30 end time. Plus is this going to be like the Dark Knight one where it's all text?

Or at least a 1 night. Those Fathom digital screenings have included operas, broadway plays, self-help presentations and even the Death Note movies (Japanese). But no big features ever take advantage of it.

Hell, they're doing a live Rifftrax with Plan 9 from Outer Space next month.

Of course, I have no clue what the quality is on them or if it's even worth it (if it's the same quality as the pre-movie digital projector, fuck that. If it takes full advantage of their DLP setup then cool.)

(I can't for the life of me figure out who would go to a theater to watch Vans warped tour, though... just wouldn't be anywhere near the same.)

I have no idea, but I'm hoping video. I reserved a spot but I still am skeptical and am prepared for disappointment.

I've seen only three screenings of these types: Coachella (Fathom presentation) the imagery was decent. Sony's Hot Ticket presentation of Rent: Final Show was fantastic with crisp vibrant colors and bombastic sound as well as a Cirque du Soleil show. Hot Ticket used the DLP setup to excellent effect.

Warner's has really slipped a cog on making this "too" exclusive.

BTW, what are the theatres that are showing the director's cut.

Here are the theaters for this weekend: Mann Chinese 6 in Los Angeles, Landmark Sunshine 5 in New York, Carmike Apple Valley 15 in Minneapolis, and Rave Hickory Creek 16 in Dallas.

This is a best buy exclusive. It will go nice next to my dark knight and iron man mask.

It wont be video, but I think they could pull off audio.

I thought about it, but I'm over it. I saw it on IMAX once; I'd rather just watch the DC in the comfort of my own home.

The quality of the Fathom digital screenings look like horseshit. While Sony's The Hot Ticket used actual digital projectors, Fathom screenings use the same shitty projector used for the pre-show at Regal theaters.

I almost bought the PS3 game with movie today at work to watch it early, but can't bring myself to spend nearly $50 on a game I'll never play...
