Yes, it does, but Warner has not used PCM (that I know of). This is their first DTS MA title. Just stating its possible TrueHD can do 7.1 which many think it can't just because no title has used it before.

Though, this may be a 'freebie' like what DTS did with Disney on Prince Caspian. Don't care either way since lossless is lossless.

Wow, a double dip before the movie even comes out. Is this a first?

No. I'm pretty sure films like the Lord of the Rings, King Kong, Hellboy and the like were announced for Extended cuts before the theatrical DVD's came out.

Others with 7.1 TrueHD tracks:

Shamo (Tai Seng)

Quite a bit of Blue Underground stuff (Circle of Iron, Fast Company, The Final Countdown, Dead and Buried, The Stendhal Syndrome, and...well, probably everything but Bad Boy Bubby)

You're right about the AB Stuff. Always thought it was 5.1 for TrueHD and 7.1 for DTS MA. Been a while since I've actually checked out one of their titles.

This is the one I'm waiting for. Won't bother with the director's cut.

Someone actually started a thread for this a few days ago, before the website even broke the news.

And before that, most people were aware as the studio and director kept saying "We are releasing the Theatrical Release and Director's Cut and then in December we are releasing the Ultimate Edition."

I think it is totally fair and nobody can complain about it either, because all the facts are out there and it is up to people to decide which one they want. It isn't like people are going to buy the Director's Cut and then be surprised in December when it comes out again.

Just so you know, the Ultimate Edition isn't going to have any special features, aside from an audio commentary, supposedly. Pretty much every special feature on the Director's Cut is going to be exclusive to the Director's Cut.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)

I can rent the DC for the special features.

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)

I want both editions simply because I'm not convinced that I'm going to like having "Tales from the Black Freighter" spliced into the film. I want the DC on it's own. I'll buy the buff edition for the bells & whistles.

i will be in for both. that's how the watchmen fans roll.

The thing that bugs me is that they are calling this an Ulimate Edition. WTF? Ultimate edition?? Why even call it that?

Sounds like this title will never truly get an ultimate edition because it looks like it's going to have a fan base that can be continually exploited by multidipping.

Same here. My Watchmen Collection is extensive.

I'm not sure if the Studio is actually calling it an Ultimate Edition. I do know that most Watchmen fans are calling it that though. I think the studio is calling it a 5-Disc Limited Edition.

The Nightmare Before Christmas has a 7.1 Dolby TrueHD track.

Assuming the added makes for a vast improvement, this is exactly what I'll do. Why just get the DC when I can get the Ultimate Edition?

Glad to read that it's not the video disapointment The Dark Knight was (although I don't think shifting aspect ratios was one of its problems). And it got a perfect score for audio.:up:

The Ultimate Cut sounds like it's only the director's cut with the animated black freighter scenes thrown in. Uh, no thanks.

That's exactly what it is, except it does include scenes of the Two Bernies for the transitions from the Watchmen Universe to the Tales Of The Black Freighter Comic/Cartoon. For those of us that are fans of the Graphic Novel, this is great news as it will allow for an even closer film experience to the original source material.

I was going to hold out for the Ultimate Edition but the WBShop.com deal for the Director's Cut, Black Freighter, and another movie for the cost of one was too good to pass up.

Its ridiculous, that they won't put Theatrical, Director's, and Black Freighter all on 1 disc, with options to turn on/off the extra scenes - like Close Encounters.

macnorton 07-10-09 09:17 AM

Re: Watchmen: 7/28/09 (?)

It appears the Ultimate Edition will be totally different than the Director's Cut.

This bums me out a bit because I was really hoping for a "complete" package. Now it looks like I will have to get the DC, Black Freighter and the Motion Comics separately and not get this ultimate edition.

However, there is still plenty of time between now and December for that to change. So here's to hoping Warner doesn't do what they are proposing currently.

Why would they change? Only the hard core fans will want "everything", and most of us will buy every release to get it. I hate them for it, but they're marketing it brilliantly.

It's also ridiculous that the Ultimate Edition will have 5 discs and won't have all those options.

I only say this because the full details have not been released yet, so it *could* change.

I do agree with your statement though.
