Come on now....insulting Fox for bare-bones discs is SO 2008.....why don't you throw a "bet these will be encoded with MPEG2" while you're at it?

I bought the Quadrilogy from Costco cheap and resold a year later for twice the price...Hoping ALL the films hit BD.

Awesome news. hopefully they can a) keep the DNR knob off and b) give the first 2 films individual releases. I would never pay for parts 3 & 4.

Having seen three of the four of these in theaters, in both 70mm and 35mm (obviously only 35mm for Resurrection), these should all look and sound phenomenal on Blu-ray. The first two Alien films were huge influences on me when I was growing up. Needless to say, these films were one of the first titles I wanted when Blu-ray and HD DVD were announced.
And yes, I do hope we get the uncut Alien 3 documentary, but I'm not holding my breath.

Apparently, an image of the (French) BD Quadrilogy set has surfaced, so it seems like it's definitely coming in Q4.
I'll definitely get this, but not at the $100 or so that I'm guessing this will retail for initially. Probably when it's in the $49.99 to $59.99 range. Dropping $90 on the DVD Quadrilogy when it was first released still hurts.

My guess is that they'll go the X-Men trilogy route and have individual releases, but digital copies only in the box set. Which is fine by me, I'll grab the first 2 on release day and get the other 2 when I find them on sale.

I had forgotten about this release, actually, when thinking of the initial pricing this might be offered at. I was thinking of the Die Hard Collection's pricing. But if they go the X-Men route, then maybe this can be had for $59.99 on release week. I'd definitely bite on that.

That picture makes me believe that the Alien films will not have special features since it looks like the original box set not the quadrilogy box set.

While Fox used to be known as the studio with the stripped down BD releases, they have really stepped it up recently in carrying over the DVD supplements...
Based on comments made by people in the know, I don't think you have to worry about this set not having special features on it....in fact, it has been suggested that we may even be getting MORE bonus features on this new set than before...

I'm still worried about Aliens. It desperately needs a new master and it can't be done without Cameron's involvement. I hope we don't get stuck with the same one they've been using for the past decade or so.

Judging the contents by a picture of a box?? Sorry, but I don't see how you can believe anything based on that one small picture of the upcoming set....

I'd be more then happy with just ALIEN. ALIENS does need work. But, I don't think JC is going to participate in any way. He's seemed to have dropped out of any work on his old films.

Well, Avatar is 20th Century Fox, so it's possible they're working with his schedule and trying to accommodate him. I mean, it doesn't seem like he'd have to devote much time to it.

I'll be buying this no matter what (or possibly only the first three, individually, if that's an option).
Even if it ports over all of the Quadrilogy extras, I think I'll still keep my DVD set, for nostalgia, if nothing else. I only paid $25 for it and it's one of the best DVD sets ever, in my opinion.
