I would have bought Casablanca in a heartbeat if it came in a regular edition without the lobby cards and all of the other stuff along with the above two titles.
I don't like this trend with WB in releasing movies on Blu-ray with their "Ultimate Edition" package and charging us $20 to $30 more especially for these classics.

Here's what Feltenstein said:
Feltenstein, who dubs himself WHV's "in-house Blu-ray cheerleader," believes WHV has recently made some "bold and aggressive" moves regarding classics, and hopes other studios will follow suit. He cites next month's releases of the biblical epic 'Quo Vadis,' and two Best Picture winners, 'Gigi' and 'An American in Paris,' as a "litmus test" for classics, even though they are "very, very risky titles to put out in this marketplace, which mostly caters to new theatrical releases."

I stated this in the other topic already, but I'll go ahead and mention it here as well.
According to our reservation list at FYE, The Wizard Of Oz is scheduled to come out on Blu-Ray on September 23rd. Gone With The Wind is scheduled for December 1st.
Again, since these haven't been officially announced, take these with a grain of salt.

Packaging size is the real issue for me. I just don't have enough room for this crap. I have a whole wall devoted to Blu-ray, DVD, and games already—just give me the normal-sized packaging.

Incidentally, I'm not sure why they think two musicals (out of three releases) is a good "test".

Re: Wizard of Oz & Gone With the Wind CE's ----> Q4, 2009
I'm not sure why Warners are shooting themselves in the feet like this. I'm like everyone else who would gladly buy Casablanca (and both of these) without all the "collector's items" and such. I'll take all the disc-based extras they want to offer, but I don't need anything more junk taking up space in my house.

If you can find a cheap copy of Casablanca on HD-DVD ($10 or less), buy it & do the WB Red2Blu thing. I was very surprised to see Casablanca on the list. It's $9.95 instead of $4.95 to upgrade, but considering what they're charging that's a deal. I wasn't planning on getting it for the price they want, but for $10- hell yes!

$60? Hell no. Even for one of the greatest films of all time. That's not how you release one of the most popular films ever on Blu-ray, Warner Bros. You sell it for $30 or even $25 and people will still buy it. But $60? I guess they are OK with most of us passing on these until the cheaper releases come out. It's too bad, because with a lower price both of these would have sold Blu-ray players and probably even HDTV's to consumers.

I've never seen GWTW.
I want to see GWTW.
I will not pay $60 for a box full of trinkets to see GWTW.

is the 4 disc GWTW that pricey on ebay? if so, i might consider dumping mine to pay for the blu ray. however, i do want to know if the excellent documentary, the making of a legend will be on the blu ray or not.

I never want to see GWTW again....not even in HD....it is my wife's favorite film though, so she wants it on Blu...
She will not pay $60 for the extra crap either, however...she just wants a regular release....
(Her second favorite film is The Wizard Of Oz too, get it together Warner!)

Wizard of Oz
"Tonight, Warner Home Video announced the DVD and Blu-ray Disc release of The Wizard of Oz: 70th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition for release on 9/29. We've known the release was coming for many months, but now it's finally official. The Blu-ray box set will sell for $84.99 and the DVD box will sell for $69.92. A 2-disc DVD version will also be available (SRP $24.98). It appears that all of the previous DVD extras will be included, along with 4 hours worth of new bonus material, including The Dreamer of Oz (an NBC film on writer L. Frank Baum), the feature-length documentary Victor Fleming, Master Craftsman, and 2 silent films, The Magic Cloak of Oz and The Patchwork Girl of Oz. The box will include an exclusive crystal watch, a coffee table book and other archival materials. You'll also get a Digital Copy version. Here's what the official/final box art looks like...

That sucks according to The Digital Bits Oz will not be released with a bluray standalone.

Great news, but ugh, I hate WB's "Ultimate Collector's Editions". It's not like Blu-Ray owners don't get gouged enough on prices, but they have to drive the knife in a little deeper by forcing super-duper collectible boxes on us. Just give me a regular edition.

Forget that. I like the movie and all but I'm not gonna pay $85 for the movie and a bunch of random junk I'll never look at more than a couple times. Just release a regular Blu-ray and I'll get it then.
