Damn, the low numbers on the Target Exclusive worry me. Mostly cause I wanted to get it on Day 1 but I wanted to sleep on my day off :)

Probably will head out soon hoping to get a copy.

There ARE no-frills options being made available...you do NOT have to buy the high-priced UCE set to get OZ on BD....you have two other choices, but they are both store exclusives...
1. the Walmart exclusive version...as no frills as they come, it is just the first BD from the UCE set (with the movie and a boatload of bonus features) in a standard plastic BD case for only $19.96....
2. the Target exclusive version....a bit more fancy as far as discs and features go, but no silly watches or posters/books/budget reproductions...it has both BD discs and the DVD with the MGM documentary, in a regular plastic BD case**(with a hinge inside like Watchmen) with a slipcase/cover for it (like Warner's latest BD TV releases of Smallville and Terminator: TSCC) at a price of $34.99....

Point taken on the Wal-Mart offering. What I should have mentioned is that (at that point in time) the Wal-Mart offering was somewhat sketchy. But, yes, at 19.96 it is a reasonable no-frills option for a first day Blu-Ray release. The SD at my Wal-Mart was 13 bucks, so I picked up a couple for Christmas presents. As far as Target at 34.99 ... that indeed may be no-frills for some but the price for a Blu-Ray release with a bunch of special features still seems high to me. YMMV.

Stopped by my Target at lunch to get Gremlins. They were sold out of the Emerald Edition, but I was going to wait for X-Mas anyway.

Got the one and only copy of the Target exclusive from the store near my work.

The only bummer about it is that they jam it into one of their security cases, which damages the blu-ray's outer slipcase pretty bad.

So by preventing theft, the person who pays for it ends up with a slightly damaged product.

Was able to pick one up at my local Target at 10:30am. There were still 4 copies sitting on the New Release Endcap.

Depends on if you want all of the extra stuff that is included in the Ultimate Collectors Edition. The Target version works for me, as I don't really need the watch, book, etc. If you are a collector, then the UCE is the way to go, otherwise, I'd go for the Target version if you just care about the video stuff.

Stopped by two Targets today, one near the grocery and the other out of disappointment when I didn't find Wizard of Oz at the first location. First one was out by early afternoon, the other had at least four copies (now three) early in the evening.

I got to Target around 4:30 ... one copy of Gremlins and two copiers of Wizard left! Picked up both movies!

I did look at the larger UCE and it is a pretty nice box. I just can;t see wasting the space right now though. I might pick it up in the future if we see an awesome deal on it.

Got it at Target, never owned this before, always caught it on TV, etc. Great to have it!

I must live in a low traffic area. I stopped in at my Target and they had plenty of Wizard of Oz and Gremlins. Picked up Gremlins, but I got the UCE of Wizard of Oz at Best Buy.

Can I get rid of my DVD versions of the Wizard of Oz now, or is there material on those that are not on the Blu-Ray?

Well, I'm a collector of movies and got the Target Edition. It makes more sense to me... but that's probably not what you meant anyway.

I'm a collector of movies, as well. I meant to go with the UCE if you are a collector of packaging, box sets, etc.

There were only 4 of the $34.99 sets at my Target an hour after opening. I suspect the stock is not deep at most stores.

BTW, if you bought the UCE from an online store please post what Number you got. I'm just curious what range they each have. My local Best Buy has a ton of them in the 79,000 range.

I got mine at Best Buy and the number is 24,258

I forgot they were numbered until I got outside, I should have looked through them for a lower number, but whatever. According to the box there are only 243,000

I'm fairly certain these will be available for a long time!

Adam's review here on the site delves into excellent detail about the components of the UCE. AFAIK, all that Best Buy is adding is four mini posters or something.

I did read it I was just hoping to get some more opinions before I splurge on this and his review is tempting me to go out and get it.

Probably your best bet is to look at it and decide how often you will view the physical items. If it's a lot, go for it. If it's once or twice, track down the Target version.

I was just saying how many there were in total. I guess I should have left out the "only" part.

Anyway, I guess I should have checked the numbers it would have been nice to have a triple digit number instead of a quintuple digit number.
