Hope they have a BD only release and not some stupid gigantic set with keychains and other crap I don't want.

You mean you won't want to pay $40+ for all of that cool stuff?

No - I don't care about postcards, keychains, mini Ruby slippers etc. Just give me the movie in a BD case or DigiBook and I'll be happy.

I'll gladly buy Casablanca when it's not part of that deluxe gift set.

Often with these movies I really just want to the movie itself. I've read so many books and seen so many documentaries on this movie, for instance, that I need no additional information.

For anyone looking for great information on this classic, I highly recommend the books by John Fricke's 50th Anniversary Pictorial History, Aljean Harmetz's Making of the Wizard of Oz, and Jay Scarfone & William Stillman's Wizardry of Oz. All likely available at your local library. I'm partial to the Harmetz book, who also wrote the amazing Round Up the Usual Suspects about Casablanca.

I figured this and Wizard would be a fourth quarter release. I'll be buying both.

Let's just hope they don't crop this and release a "widescreen" version, as awkward as that sounds.

This is one of the few movies that I don't mind having an oversized SE for, since it's one of my all time favorites.

I'm excited about these releases, at least Wizard of Oz. My wife wants Gone with the Wind. Though the artwork suggests they are coming in a special box. I can understand making a big release of these two, but make the boxes fit in my media cabinet with the rest of my Blu-rays. I'm not really interested in bonus stuff, either, since I already have the Wizard of Oz box set (which I actually liked). I don't know what they can throw in there that I don't already have, except maybe the book. But please make the boxes normal size (maybe thicker, like a TV set), but definitely not longer.

Warner didn't for Casablanca

I am in complete agreement. I've never understood the want for those little extras (I don't even get steelbooks). Seeing that Wizard might come out at the end of the year means I'll pick this up in two years when the price finally drops. Good news for the future.

I agree! The deluxe set kept me from upgrading Casablanca, though I think at least for wizard of oz I might have to grab a deluxe set.

The reason why I did not jump on the Blu-Ray set for Casablanca was because I have the title on HD-DVD. Now since GWTW and WoZ haven't seen an HD release, if they force upon me a deluxe set, I just may have to budge.

Wizard of Oz & Gone With the Wind CE's ----> Q4, 2009

No firm date, but both will be MSRP $89.99. No "normal" versions scheduled to be released :( Boxsets similar to the I Am Legend CE.

I'd pay up to $35...maybe $40 for WoZ. Maybe. But no way will I pay $60. Warner has got to be shitting themselves if they think this is a good idea in this economy.

Well, I might not get it right away. Deals will surely pop up. But yea, don't like the price at all.

Re: Wizard of Oz & Gone With the Wind CE's ----> Q4, 2009

I was interested in both of these titles just as I was Casablanca, but I will not go more than $30. WB is just pricing themselves out of sales here. Same goes for the Notebook - I would have bought it for $20 but I don't want all the crap it comes with or a non-standard BD case, and I hate printing my own art - I want the real thing.

I guess it will be rentals.

Wow. They can sit on them at those prices. I'll wait.

Also, not a fan of non-standard packaging. That silliness should have ended with DVD.

I just placed a placeholder order for both at Amazon.com, but I'm not pleased with the prices. Let's hope that they do come down in price before they ship.

To stick two revered films like this exclusively into expensive collector's sets is ridiculous and is obviously going to hurt sales. Undoubtedly, Warner will later dumbly mention that the market just isn't there for classics on Blu... -ohbfrank-

You're not really helping by pre-ordering them at the current price.

I agree. Pricing these closer to normal releases would actually, I think, convince more people to even go Blu that may not have considered it otherwise. This is ridiculous.

I'm interested in GWTW, but *only* if I can get a version in more normal sized packaging (like Blade Runner); if the only option is some giant sized thing with a bunch of fake lobbycards and other items I don't want, then I'll wait.

Re: Wizard of Oz / Gone with the Wind coming to Blu-ray in the 4th quarter of 2009

Until the price comes down to standard levels, these will be Netflix rentals only for me (and, fortunately, Netflix does seem to carry new releases of previously-released catalog titles whenever they come out on blu-ray ... fingers-crossed that this continues).
