Don't forget about the positive review given by Robert Harris.

Great review Adam!

As others have mentioned, the Target version was exactly what I was looking for. The LE is awesome, but I don't have the space anymore for big sets.

Well I was going to wait, but that review has me down to going to Target now to pick this up!!

FYI -- TARGET's edition is in regular BD keepcase with a sleeve. My Target only had two out at 8:00 a.m.

My Target in Towson had 3 at 8:00 AM, but now there are only 2. I imagine since it's advertised that they have more behind a counter or in the back, but I'm glad I don't have to hope that's the case.

I'm pumped for this, but I decided to hold off and put this on my Christmas list.

Thanks for the super-detailed breakdown of everything...now my wife will just need to decide if we keep the Target version or the Walmart one (I grabbed both this morning)....
Does anyone know this: Is the second disc of Oz the first Blu-ray Disc to ONLY feature standard definition content? I know there have been other "second/bonus" discs included with other films that have been mostly SD material, but usually they have at least one thing on them (other than the menus) in HD....this is the first time I have seen a whole BD being used only for SD content...

The box is nice looking but I'm going for the Wal-Mart version. $20 is a steal for the amount of work that went into this classic film. I have bought this before in 1999 on DVD and and previous purchases always color my decision as well..

so the Wal-Mart edition is just the cheapest of the three (Target, Best Buy, Wal-mart I'd rather purchase the Target edition than from the "evil empire" known as Walmart.

The Target edition is stunning and classy, without the insane price-tag, worthless swag, and the unforgivable amount of shelf space the big box requires.

The Wal-Mart version looks cheap as all get-out, and the fact that they couldnt even re-brand disc one to not say "disc one" in a one disc release just goes to the sheer cheapness of said edition. Also, you gotta figure this will be on sale at some point for even a bit less, so hold on to them receipts for a later price-match.

Target, Im sold!

I stopped at Target on my way to work this morning. They were still unboxing stuff and had to pull it from the back. Apparently they only got 4 copies in of the standard BD case version. Glad I asked about it! Looks like they also got a few copies of the huge box set in stock as well, but I wasn't interested in that one.

Took the subway into Target this morning & picked one up before work. As of 8:15am in Brooklyn, they only had 5 copies on the shelf! Is this really going to be THAT limited or are they just putting them out in small batches?! I'm not familiar with these big box store exclusives.

At any rate, I'm super happy. Thanks guys for giving me a head's up! Had I not read this thread I would have been stuck with that bloated box full of useless trinkets from Amazon!

It's not a limited run, it will be available at Target for some time. If not this week you will find it Friday (IIRC) when they re-stock their titles.

Wow! What a picture! You can actually read the handwriting on the Death Certificate.
"Name: The Wicked Witch of the East"
"Residence: The Land of Oz."

Just to be safe, you can call Target and they'll hold stuff for ya. Or at least the Target I go to will. I just called to see if they had it, they just had two, and they put one back on hold for me. They're always great about that for me.

Picked up the Target edition earlier and I am very happy with it. Definitely the one to buy if you dont want all the extra stuff in a box. Big thumbs up

Re: Wizard of Oz / Gone with the Wind coming to Blu-ray in the 4th quarter of 2009

My Target didn't have The Wizard Of Oz (3-Disc Emerald Edition), Gremlins, or Monsters Vs. Aliens Blu-Rays out when I got there at 8:30 A.M. I had to ask a lady, who checked a little hand held device that said they had three copies of Oz on hand. She came out with a cart of stuff, handed me a copy of The Wizard of Oz (3-Disc), and I also picked up Gremlins, Monsters Vs. Aliens (Blu-Ray/DVD Combo Pack) and Madonna's Celebration (2-Disc Deluxe Edition). It was a very expensive morning at Target for me. Also, I'll attest to the above post, that Target is very good about holding stuff for you. They've done it a couple of times when I called, and they had limited stock on hand.

I got the last copy at my local Target, but I wanted another one for my friend, so the cashier gave a raincheck with no problems at all. Now I can get another copy when they restock at the same $34.99 price.

I know this is in the thread, but can someone re-confirm that the difference between the Wal-Mart and Target sets is discs 2 & 3? Is that worth the $15 difference? I'm not sure I'd ever really venture into the content, but I usually like owning the best value.

I just opened my Wal-mart Oz. It's one disc. That's fine with me, even if the cover is a little ugly.

Got my Target Emerald Edition this morning. Very nice slipcover and all three discs are in a single case with a hinge, a la The Dark Knight or other 2-disc editions that have digital copies (although this has a documentary instead of a digital copy). This is just what I wanted, because while the physical extras look cool, I'd only look at them once and then sit there wondering where the hell I was going to store such a ridiculously large box. Snagged Gremlins as well. Glad I decided to go before work, because it sounds like no store is getting more than 6 copies or so today.

Got the Emerald Edition of Wizard of Oz at Target. It looks wonderful. It's at home, but after I get off work I can't wait to open it up and check this beauty out. I'm having friends and family over tonight specifically to watch this as a group. Should be fun.
