Now, when the movie comes out on BD, the only thing that would make me happier is to see The Shark Is Still Working get released alongside it. Come on, somebody, cut a deal and let's get that doc out there. I've never seen the damn thing and I want to!
And I love the effects in the original War of the Worlds too. Great stuff, wires or no wires!

I'm surprised to the guy had the balls to bring up Lucas in a Spielberg interview, the guys are friends. At least Spielberg acknowledged how crappy it is to make changes. Maybe they should go touch up the Mona Lisa and fix her smile?
I will probably upgrade my Jaws DVD to Blu at some point but it's not one of my favorites. I remember that summer it came out. people were literally afraid to go in the water. Even people who hadn't seen the movie heard about it. It was one of the first true summer blockbusters I can remember

The hilarious thing about this is that Da Vinci actually did keep messing with the painting for several years and never considered it finished. Updating and improving paintings is pretty common among artists anyway. So yeah, fail.
I can only imagine the fury the Lucas haters would have if he were an artist covering up an existing painting to re-use the canvas.

I remember that summer vividly as well. The movie was everywhere. Couldn't walk through a store without seeing the novel, the making-of book, the soundtrack album... And of course when you opened up a newspaper, there were the ads taking up a sizable amount of the page space, complete with the "...may be too intense for young children" warning.
I was eleven and didn't actually watch the movie until a few years later. I was too scared of it. I'm sure I posted the story elsewhere in the forum about going in to see a reissue of Bambi in a twin theatre where the other screening room was playing Jaws. About 5% of the patrons were going to see the deer and 95% were going to see the shark lol.

I'm actually a little disappointed that there won't be any digital corrections in Spielberg's films from now on. While of course I'm against the obvious stuff, like what he did with E.T., I don't have a problem with subtle things like wire removal and removing matte lines.
As for Jaws on BD, it seems that they always release this movie in the summer. So I wouldn't expect it until next year.

Good to hear. Yeah, it's funny I can't really remember the first time I watched Star Wars or Indy, but I can remember Jaws - 87' or 88' on tv. It was probably edited but my friend and I were hooked... we still laugh about that...."dude remember watching Jaws!"

I've been DYING to get this on BD. I know Uni will make sure it's a kick-ass package.
Love the balls on the AICN interviewer. Those are questions any fanboy would love to ask, so I'm glad he did.

And yet he jettisoned the original Oscar-winning mono soundtrack for Jaws in favor of a 5.1 remix that replaces a lot of the sound effects with canned library tracks.

I think he pretty much acknowledges he went through a revisionist phase but says in the interview that he's pretty much done with that. That said, I would be shocked if the remixed audio for Jaws isn't included on the BD, with the mono track right beside it.

They stated on Facebook that it wasn't going to be included.

Yeah, but to be fair, in the interview he basically said he has changed his opinion on digital tinkering. That 5.1 mix was made a while ago, around 2002 right? Which was the same time he played around with E.T., I think it's safe to say that when Jaws hits BD, you'll have the option of the mono soundtrack.

So many DVD releases jettisoned original sound mixes for revised versions. There seemed to be a mindset that "mono=bad" when DVD hit the mainstream. But there can be good mono and bad mono mixes, just as there can be good and bad stereo mixes.
The mono mix of Jaws is an excellent mono mix (won an Oscar). I played the remix the first time I watched the movie on DVD, and never again. I have the 2005 issue with both tracks and I believe the BD will follow suit.

That's not going to happen, unless Universal buys the rights to release it...last I heard, they were still looking for a DVD distributor.
Also, I wouldn't be suprised if we had to wait unitl 2015 for the Blu-ray, since that is the 40th anniversary year...although I suppose they could release it for Christmas 2014 and still call it a 40th anniversary release.
