Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Last Updated: 5/28/2010

Most of these releases sell for $12.95 - $17.95 and with the exchange rate, they only add up to a typical USA catalog release. Feel free to discuss any of these or any of the ones coming out. I do my best to keep this thread as up-to-date as possible and if you see some information missing "(Unknown)" please help.

- All these are Region A Locked unless otherwise noted (which means they work in American and Canadian players only).
- All titles are pressed on a BD25 discs unless otherwise noted.
- If you see a title not represented please let me know!
- When you see a title like this, Fanboys, it means the title has or is receiving a better US release.
- - Online places to buy Canadian Blu-rays include www.Amazon.ca or www.iNetVideo.com

Currency Converter - http://www.xe.com/ucc/
- As of 5/28: $1 US Dollar = $1.05 CANADIAN

Nightmare on Elm Street does look good, it just looks like they fell asleep at the DNR wheel. The only reason I got it was 'cause some website had it cheap and I figured now that WB has taken over New Line it'd be a while before we see it here.

..and both Sin City and From Dusk Till Dawn look and sound great. I can live without the special features considering I already own the 2-disc and 3-disc SE respectively.

Really looking forward to Freddy Vs. Jason and The Butterfly Effect.

Nightmare looks good...but I have no doubt that when Warner gets around to releasing it here in the US it will be identical (PQ/AQ) to the Canadian release. If its loaded with NEW features I'll doubledip...otherwise my Canadian BD + Nightmare Collection is just fine.

Sin City and Dusk look great as well. Not an extra whore, so the BDs are fine.

I also pre-ordered Freddy VS Jason (2 copies actually - I'll have an extra for sale when it comes) and Butterfly Effect. Looks like a new studio has taken over the releases from Alliance called TVA, and so far, all of their releases have had the special features from previous DVDs intact.

Hmm... the Butterfly Effect... maybe for the right price and assuming it's not the theatrical "happy happy joy joy ending" cut. I love that movie.

Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter has a couple small extras, a 14 minute documentary, trailer for JCVH, and some production stills. The case shows a commentary, but it's not there.

This looks to be the same as the American release.

Gotcha. I know I read your review at some point here on DVDTalk, but thought maybe you just imported the Canadian version. Other sites listed it as a Canadian exclusive but I see its not. Removed (unless the Canadian version is a special cut...anyone know?).

I was excited about the mention of the Amélie BD until I read the one review on the Amazon.ca website:
http://www.amazon.ca/Amelie-Blu-ray/...0918984&sr=1-2

1080i, picture artifacts, menu problems, and no subtitles.

Being a Corey Yuen fan, I enjoyed D.O.A. as retarded fun, but I don't think I need this in Blu. Although that's alot of hot ass to be passing up on.

Image released a few here (Short Circuit comes to mind). I'm not pleased with it and only ordered one title (Fido) because of it. Hoping FvJ and Butterfly do not suffer the same fate.

I just watched this again for the first time in a while on DVD, and I was really surprised at how nice the DVD looks even today. For a 7 year old disc, it has to be one of the best DVD's I've seen. A high-def version would be awesome I think.

I don't know about the Blu, but from what I saw on HDNET Movies (pretty much just the scene with Weisz in the bathtub) It looked OK. Detail was nice.

I think Rounders is on your other list of confirmed Miramax us releases. Feb 17 I believe.
