How did you verify that it's the exact same disc?

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

It looks like the Seven disc that's coming out on Tuesday is going to be cropped to 1.85 according to bluray.com. Someone apparently has it already and says it "fills the screen", so the AR spec is not a typo . The 1080i one may be though.

I caught wind of the issue with Se7en earlier this week and cancelled my preorder in time. Damn shame.

Disappointing news about Seven ... I expect this from an HD broadcast, but not from a BD release.

Guys -

This is Alliance. They have numerous packaging errors for the Canadian exclusives (just look at my list!). Until a few people get it IN HAND (as its possible someone zoomed in or there player/TV did) I would recommend holding off importing it. Most likely it will be 1080p and the correct AR....hopefully.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Haven't checked the aspect ratio but according to BDInfo both Seven and Derailed both are 1080i30 releases. Have Traffic and Requiem For A Dream as well, but haven't checked them out yet.

Seven is officially in the incorrect aspect ratio . Open matted from 2.35 to 1.78. I'll be waiting for a U.S. release.

That is truly terrible about Seven. I was planning on passing on it for the inevitable US release anyway. This information just confirms it.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Aesthetically I don't mind the open matte of the Canadian release. It seems to have more breathing space. BUT I guess that was Fincher's point in wanting to create more of a claustrophobic atmosphere.

So I will of course default to the Director's true intent.

BTW for the last DVD release, Fincher recomposed every shot within the 2.35:1 presentation, so I wont be happy with the original theatrical 2.35:1 either, the blu-ray for me will need to be his reframed version.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Does anyone have Requiem for a Dream on BD?

I am wondering about the quality of the transfer.

Also, it says "Director's Cut." Is this the same as the American "unrated" version?

Nevermind...checked it out on DVDBeaver. Might hold off for a little bit.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

Has anyone done extensive price comparisons for these releases as an American importing them? I realize the safe choice is to go with Amazon.ca, but are there any other legitimate options? The international shipping at Amazon.ca is ridiculous in comparison to other retailers and their international shipping prices.

Re: Canadian Blu-ray Releases - Complete List and Discussion

I just buy them from Amazon.ca as typically it comes out to about $20 USA shipped. Not bad IMO.

What does Canada get so many titles before the U.S.!? I'm in for "Eternal Sunshine" and "Copland". But Gizmo, do you see that on America's horizon?

These dates were done before Warner swallowed Newline. IF Newline was still by itself, we would have seen Blade (and Freddy vs Jason, Butterfly Effect etc) at the same time. Warner appears to have nixed all those dates.

Amazon.ca finally cancelled my order of Taxi Driver. It has been cancelled by the manufacturer they say.

Because these titles are distributed by Alliance Films here in Canada, so they're busy getting these out on Blu-ray ($$$$) before their distribution rights expire.

I believe Warner gave Alliance Films rights to the New Line catalogue until November 2009? (if I recall).
