Picked up my set at Best Buy during lunch. Pretty snazzy packaging. These films are worth $65 in my opinion.

The only thing I don't like is how the flap of Bourne on the front isn't sealed along the edge. Using your finger to open the magnetized flap using the edge is going to damage it. I am using my fingernail at the bottom to flip it open, but this packaging could have been designed a little better.

Re: The Bourne Collection - 1/27/09

I was scanning through the 3 movies last night after the Super Bowl and what impressed me most was the audio. I always thought the DTS soundtrack on Bourne Identity was excellent, but my quick impression of the lossless track on the Blu-ray is that it is far superior. In the initial scene where they are on the boat, the sound is very enveloping. More so than on the DTS track on the DVD.

Fry's still has this set for $64.99 until the Feb 5. Price match at Best Buy with 10% of the difference back and you can get it for $62.49.

Re: The Bourne Collection - 1/27/09

Hello everyone,

I was also scanning through the three movies yesterday and noticed that in "The Bourne Identity", about half way through, the Blu Ray video freezes up on me for a few minutes of the film. I can forward the chapter or go back, but when I go to this specific chapter, the video freezes shortly after. I bought the film set on Amazon and already had them send me a replacement. The same problem exists with the new copy as well. I have a Sony S350 player and have had no trouble viewing any other films or the other two movies in the series (Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum). I apologize that I do not remember the exact chapter, as it is late at night and I already shut down my home theater. Could you guys verify that the freeze happens on your players or not (preferably S350 people)? Here is a description of the scene:

"Bourne and Marie are on the run. Bourne parks Marie's red car and goes into a train station? to deposit his bag of passports etc. He comes back out to find Marie gone, but then sees her coming out of a store. They both get in the car and Bourne asks Marie if she wants to go to the cops or stay with him."

It is during this scene, before the big car chase, that the screen freezes and I miss a few minutes of the movie. Any help would be so greatly appreciated!! I must also add that I am up on all the firmware updates on my S350 and have had no prior troubles with any Blu Ray discs before. The set I have is brand new, no scratches on the disc. I have exchanged the set, and found that the problem still exists in the same spot on the new disc for "The Bourne Identity" film only.

Thanks for your help guys (and gals!)

Sincerely,
elliotroad

Hi nycdude!

Thanks for your response! Yes, actually, I upgraded the firmware before I received my Bourne Trilogy set from Amazon, so I have the latest version (.015). So, it is very odd that this issue occurs. However, I was googleing and found that another guy was having the same problem with his Bourne Identity in the exact same location!! Check this link out below over at blu-ray.com:

forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?p=1575375

Any help would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I Netflixed The Bourne Identity. I can (and will) wait for a significant price drop before buying.

It was fine but nothing special. Much of the Bourne Trilogy is shot pretty darn dark, so I don't think it makes for anything to get too excited about.

I just went through the scene on the same player and had no problems at all. I bought the player about 4 months ago and have never updated the firmware...I didn't know that I had to.

Talking sales is a sin, but I'm still going to mention this. The Bourne set was the #1 BD seller for last week. Great to see a catalog title at #1, but this probably means overall numbers were down.

hmm....I must just have received two bum copies from amazon. It doesn't seem like a lot of you have had issues with it, just the guy in my above post. I guess I will try exchanging once more to see if I can get a clean copy. Like I said, the other two Bourne films work great, as does the rest of my Blu Collection. For some reason, my player doesn't like Bourne Identity. Thanks!

Re: The Bourne Collection - 1/27/09

I'm guessing that I first saw a Blu-Ray demonstration 6 years ago. I know there have been some specification changes through the years but for this format to still be having problems in 2009 is odd to say the least. Naturally, authoring problems can happen in any digital format but Blu-Ray problems seem to have more than their share of issues.

I can see a friend asking someone ... didn't you get one of the first U.S players and didn't you have problems. "yes" And now you have a new player and still have problems? "Well, sometimes". Talking about ways to muck up good word-of-mouth.

IMO, This is a bad thing...high MSRP on the Bourne set may make Universal think this is a good idea for future HD DVD ports (see Fast and the Furious). Sigh. Looking at the release list, the only other big releases were Lakeview Terrace, Pride and Glory, RockNRolla, VCB and Zodiac.

I plan to actually watch the entire movie this weekend, so I'll report back if something different happens.

By the way, the guy from the other post wasn't using a Sony S350, so I'm not sure what to make of that.

It is odd that the problem happened in the exact same spot, though.

Re: The Bourne Collection - 1/27/09

Considering the lower price Fox has set for the upcoming X-Men trilogy box set, Universal needs to take a second look at their pricing scheme for this (and that Fast & Furious set) ASAP....if Fox is giving us 9 discs (well, six BD and 3 digital copies) for only $79.99 list, than Bourne should be between $59.99 to $64.99 list TOPS...
With all the crap Fox has received over their high pricing of catalog titles in the past, I'm surprised they are making Universal look so bad now....

Of course, Fox's individual discs of the X-Men set are $34.99 MSRP, so they haven't necessarily learned a lesson, yet.

But remember, their catalogs used to be 39.99.

Looks like these are out individually in the UK for cheap money (~11 pounds). Anyone know if these are region free? You know they'll be part of a B2G1 sooner rather than later, making them $30-$40ish for the set.

Question regarding Identity - I saw on post #27 that it said alternate opening and ending, but is this handled through branching? I saw the alternate version before and I actually preferred the theatrical cut. I was hoping they gave the option since they have so much room to store extras and add branching.

No, they're handled via 'Deleted Scenes'.

Re: The Bourne Collection - 1/27/09

Went to FYE and found a still-sealed "used" copy of the Bourne Trilogy. It was marked at $71.99, and rang up at $59.99. The 40% off a used item coupon brought it down to $35.99, my Backstage Pass 10% discount brought it down to $32.39, and had I signed up for a 30-day trial of their "new" Backstage Pass club and got a free $20 gift card for doing so (which just arrived in the mail on Friday), so I got the trilogy, brand new, for $14.33 including tax.

My question is, can someone confirm that none of the material from the Best Buy Exclusive Bonus Disc for "The Bourne Ultimatum" was carried over to this release? I see that the two featurettes ("Big City Action" (29:12) and "The Evolution of Nicky" (10:28)) are not listed on the case for the Blu-ray, but there are also all sorts of interactive features and I wanted to make sure that they're not mixed in somewhere.

I want to sell my "Jason Bourne Collection" DVD and aside from the replica passport, everything else is ported over, but I bought the Best Buy SteelBook and replaced the 1-disc "Ultimatum" in this set with that, so I feel like it would be a shame to just get rid of almost 40 minutes of exclusive features.

Any help would be appreciated.
