The Little Mermaid in 3D looks and sounds fantastic. I was pleasantly surprised that they retained the murky/hazy look the film originally had rather than scrubbing it to a glossy sheen like other Disney remasters of their classic films.
Sadly, there's that annoying goof where they flipped the order of two shots during the "Part of Your World" number. It's doubtful that Disney will issue replacement discs (and it's not a dealbreaker for me) but I certainly hope they do.
The new 3D conversion is surprisingly effective and gives a good sense of depth to the below sea and above ground scenes. There's really not much in terms of reverse parallax ("popout"), just some bubbles and a few elements like King Triton's hand at one point, that are that are pushed into the foreground. Overall, an excellent 3D conversion that feels organic and as if this movie was always intended to be seen that way.
The audio is fantastic with a pleasantly wide soundstage that benefits the musical numbers. However, many will likely find the surprisingly subtle use of the surrounds of the new 7.1 remix rather off-putting. But to be perfectly honest, it's a far better end result than some gimmicky forced use of surround effects where none originally existed.
Be sure to use the Disney Movie Rewards code as it gets you a zip file that contains the songs of the movie. Though it unfortunately omits the score and includes a new version of "Part of Your World" by someone named Carly Rae Jepsen. I suppose she's some flavor of the week but she really does not deserve a place in this musical collection. Still, overall, not bad for a freebie download.

I just watched this the other night as well. Not as effective during the second viewing, but still a pretty tense and eerie movie.

Good news! If you'd like a replacement Blu-ray of The Little Mermaid, with the editing in Part of Your World and the dissolve to Scuttle restored you can call:
800-723-4763 (U.S.)
888-877-2843 (Canada)
She said to send only the Blu-ray disc in the mailer. I only got the 2 disc Blu-ray and DVD in DVD packaging version ($24.95, counting as a commitment, w00t (this is cool because the deal with DMC is that you normally have to buy 2 at $29.95 so this is like $5 off the total of my membership, so I got 9 Disney Blu-rays for $82.24 total rather than $89 total)), so I don't know and didn't think to ask if they were replacing 3D Blu-rays.
