The Bible: In the Beginning just finished Act 1, and while the Adam & Eve story was pretty much filmed in implied darkness, the Cain and Abel and the Noah story looked amazing - granted the film was shot in 65mm, the colors and sharpness make it look like it was filmed last week ... oh and the sound! dynamic and full sounding, surrounds might be a bit limited but spread across the left, center and right front speakers it's mighty impressive.

Last night I watched Superman/Batman: Public Enemies. I liked it quite a bit. There's a great 55 minute bonus feature of a dinner conversation with Bruce Timm, Andrea Romano, Kevin Conroy and some other dude discussing the DC Universe animated world that they've created over the last 20 years. Great anecdotes. It may have been better than the movie, actually.

The Adventures of Robin Hood, a first time viewing. Warner really did an outstanding job with this release. Not only is the movie gorgeous (one of the best looking Blus in my library, and it was filmed in 1938!), but they really added some great bonus features. I watched it with the "Night at the Movies 1938" warm-up, which includes a trailer for Angels with Dirty Faces, a news reel about Nazi Germany absorbing Austria and two short films: the live action Freddie Rich and His Orchestra and the animated Merry Melodies short, "Katnip Kollege." All were delightful, with the obvious exception of the news reel--though having a history background I found that uniquely interesting.
There were other shorts as well, including an additional two Robin Hood-themed Merry Melodies ("Rabbit Hood" and "Robin Hood Daffy"), a documentary spotlighting Howard Hill (Cavalcade of Archery) and a doc filmed by Errol Flynn in which he used his own schooner in an oceanographic expedition (Cruise of the Zaca). Warner even included a year-ending blooper reel, Breakdowns of 1938 which amounted to a whole lot of "goddammit!"s that threatened to become tedious.
There are plenty of other bonus features, but the only other one that I got to tonight was a Turner Classic Movies doc about Technicolor (Glorious Technicolor). I learned quite a lot from it, but I was surprised how many clips looked "off"--especially in a feature about color!
Even if I hadn't been thrilled by the main feature, this would still be a gem in my library based just on its bonus content. I am delighted that I spent the $10 to buy it last week before my local Walmart yanked it from the sales floor.

Easy A Given the fact it was a teen comedy about virginity I didn't think I would find it all that enjoyable but it was pretty humorous
Wall Street 2 Didn't stick with it, found it way too slow to get moving and just wasn't in the mood for a movie I had to think about

The Thing - Never seen this before, but I've been catching up on my unwatched movie pile so I managed to squeeze this in. I'm fucking glad I did, best horror movie I've EVER seen. I'm usually not a fan because they suck so hard, but this one left just the right amount of ambiguity to keep me interested and asking questions. Plus, Kurt Russell is the man. Really really enjoyed this, I will be watching it again soon.
Black Swan - Initially I didn't have much of a desire to see this, but some of my friends said good things, so I went with a blind buy yesterday and watched it right away. It really reminded me of a different sort of take on American Psycho to some degree. I ended up enjoying it quite a bit, and I'll be watching it again this weekend with some friends. Hopefully I pick up some stuff I missed the first time.
