Word of Warning - Ultimate Matrix Collection (BD) no longer has Hardcover Book

Oh man.

Looks like The Ultimate Matrix Collection dropped the hard cover book that was initially offered and possibly replaced it with a flimsy paper one (though some are reporting not even getting that).

Also keep in mind they are not in normal BD cases but slimmer Blu-ray cases as well. Sigh.

I'm confused....did the HD-DVD version of the box set include a hardcover book? I don't remember seeing anywhere that Warner said the Blu-ray set was going to include a hardcover book...
I have the original DVD release of this set, and it only included what I guess you would call a "paper" booklet with it, one that looks just like the one included with the pics I have seen of the actual Blu-ray set other people have taken and posted on other forums...

No, the HD DVD set was just the films.

The picture above shows the hard cover book as does the press release.

Its negative Nancy!

What I am warning people is that the hard cover book (picture in the OP) is what most people saw when it was announced and thought was included - including several people over at HDD. I should have figured a negative post about Blu-ray would drag you out.

Wasn't there 2 different HD-DVD sets, one was an Ultimate set and one was the trilogy? Did the Ultimate HD-DVD set have a book?

You should have figured out that an incorrect warning would be indeed questioned. And as most people saw at the announcement made at DVDTimes.co.uk there wasn't a hardcover book planned. At all!

Could you point me to the specific portion in Warner's announcement where "hardcover book" is mentioned? When was it initially offered?

There is no need to sigh!

Ultimate (on HD DVD) were Combo discs with the Animatrix in SD.

Oh, and Pro-B

http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=1563
Warner Home Video has announced that they will bring the highly anticipated 'The Ultimate Matrix Collection' to Blu-ray on October 14th. The seven-disc set will include five BD-50s - one disc for each of the three Matrix films, one for Animatrix, and one for "The Matrix Experience" - and two DVDs. Also included in the set will be a hard-cover book with photos and information from the films.

Video will be presented in 1080p VC-1 and accompanied by a Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. Extras for this release include:

* 3 Exclusive In-Move Experience BonusView features
* 35 hours of extras
* Digital download of 'The Matrix'
* Much more
Now, that's coming from Blu-ray.com. That should be correct, right?

It is pretty obvious to me from the photo in your initial post and the one DVDTIMES provided that there isn't a hardcover book. And obviously from DVDTIMES' announcement there isn't a single remark about a hardcover book.

And regardless of what Blu-ray.com has posted the fact that there is actually a book included with the set makes it that much more difficult to make a big drama out of it.

So let me get this straight.

Blu-ray.com initially announced it with a hard cover book. A picture with a hard cover book is shown. Please see Post #1 and Post #8.

The set does not come with a hard cover book.

Am I correct?

Would you like to know why I started this thread, Pro-B?

Thanks to the misinformation Blu-ray.com spread two threads were created with the perception that a hard cover book was included.

http://forum.dvdtalk.com/hd-talk/536...0-14-08-a.html
and
http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showt...r#post14366652

So why you may find this thread to be worthless, I'm just letting people here, who may have only read the initial announcement, know what they won't be getting with this set. I'm sure you take this as me slamming Blu-ray, but I'm simply letting fellow forum members know exactly what they are paying for. I havn't even checked other forums either, just those two. So before you start claiming "it wasn't announced!!" it clearly was before the official specs came down, and we have a picture of it as well.

Here's a very plan and simple answer to you:

DVDTIMES has the official and final Warner announcement with all of the technical specs revealed in addition to a very telling photo showing what the Matrix package will look like. A hardcover-book isn't mentioned.

Blu-ray.com does not have the official and final Warner announcement with the technical specs revealed in the post you linked.

It should be fairly easy to figure out which one is the complete announcement.

Anyway, I don't see any need to further argue the issue as there isn't one to begin with. The book is in the set.

For what it's worth, I just checked the WB website and there is no hardbook advertised and I don't remember it ever being advertised either. Plus I looking forward to seeing the slimline BD cases and it taking up less space on my shelf.

Call me crazy but having word of warning in a thread title automatically makes one assume that something is wrong with PQ or AQ or the studio screwed up on a title. Something like this, IMO, doesn't need a "warning". Just sayin'.

P.S. Really not sure what's there to complain about based on this. Looks pretty good to me

Completely agree. Are we going to get a new thread with these dire "warnings" every time there's a packaging issue? Can't we just have one thread dedicated to packaging discussions?

And the slimline cases for The Matrix set are great. I've owned the DVD, HD DVD and now Blu-ray versions of this set, and this is the best configuration yet.

Of course looking at some of the posts, tampering with/adding subpar packaging is a capital offense to some people.

This packaging isn't a subpar effort though. It's actually a very nice set and the booklet included is very nice too.

I seriously thought some of the conversation in the HD portion of the forum were just over opinion differences, but now I'm beginning to think some people are holding a grudge over how the format war ended, and are doing whatever they can to slander the surviving format. It's sad. There's no conspiracy, yeesh. Don't buy the set if you don't like it, end of story.

I thought I would insert another word of warning into this yet another word of warning thread.

Best Buy has this set in their ad for 74.99. Even with tax that's around $10 less than Amazon, who still has it for 89.99. I cancelled my Amazon order and will be getting this locally.

I also noticed Best Buy has Casino and American Gangster in the ad for 19.99 each.

This is a could trend for Blu-Ray pricing at Best Buy for sure.

Were not even discussing the HD DVD versions in this thread besides one person asking if the Ultimate HD DVD had the book or not. I'm simply warning people that something was changed/altered from the initial offering we all read and people may want to know before they place their $75+ order. Kinda like how we do the same when Warner decides to drop a lossless track which I would have loved to know about so I could have canceled my Interview with a Vampire BD order before it shipped.

Gizmo and Pro-B. I certainly have enjoyed your contributions to the forum over the years. I think what we have here is a case of us wanting to find out about a Blu-ray release as early as possible, and perhaps not realizing that sometimes preliminary specs may change from the time that it was announced and when it comes out (See The Mist and L.A. Confidential cover changes for proof of that).

What I have seen in the photo's is the larger book in the initial photo and a smaller book in the second photo. It looks like this aspect has changed. Whether it was announced as "hardcover" or not, I don't know. I don't know how you can tell whether or not, from looking at that first photo, that book is a hard cover.

Anyway, I'm short on shelf space myself, so I am glad that the cases are thin.

that book in the first post is not a hard cover.
it's a thicker cover then a usual soft back book, not a hard cover.
also can we not get these sky is falling "warnings" in the title anymore.how about
"heads up" or something less dramatic.
maybe "for your information"

Could be wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Amazon lowers & matches BB's price before Tuesday.

Can't we just contain packaging discussions (which are a matter of opinion, anyway) to a single Packaging thread?
