I have this set, and the booklet is an impressive breakdown of basically what's available on the set. I'm not sure why it would ever warrant a hardcover book, and I'm glad it's not, because it was not necessary, would make the set probably cost more, and it would take up more room on the shelf, and make the innards of the box look ugly next to the hardcover book.

'Warning' - This set is actually put together pretty damn nicely.

i think this thread title is misleading. it's not an issue big enough to warrant phrasing like "word of warning" and it's inaccurate. the Ultimate Matrix Collection does have a book. it's just not hardcover, like some people seem to have expected. i think this information could have been conveyed more responsibly.

Can't edit the thread title. I wanted to put hard cover but it won't allow me to edit.

But don't worry, I won't start anymore threads like this. Since too many people are having a hissy fit over me providing information on what was altered while still maintaining the same price, I'll go ahead and keep that information to myself for now on.

Since I may have been hours away from my order reaching Shipping Soon status, I couldn't risk them not lowering it, especially since they don't honor the 30 day price guarantee anymore. This is where they start to lose my business.

Nobody is hating. People were just stating that no "warning" was needed for something like this.

Well, to be fair, I wouldn't call a booklet part of the packaging. Packaging is more like the apparently cruddy Omen packaging.

I see the point from both sides. Pro-B is correct that Blu-Ray.com did not post the Warner press release, but GizmoDVD is right that Blu-Ray.com does mention a hardcover book, and one appears to be photographed (plus Warner is in love with DigiBook packaging so it's always possible they could have done it as a book for the set and later turned it into the packaging for a standalone release).

But I would say this is a note that could have gone in the original thread, IMO.

Also, slimline BD cases FTW.

Good point, that policy change does suck. That's a big enough difference too, I can see why you wouldn't want to roll the dice.

Wait, won't they honor it up until release day (Tuesday) or do they stop as soon as it ships?

Perhaps. It's not worth it for me to find out. I'll just stop at BB Tuesday morning.

I got a refund on Body Heat last week post-shipping but before release date when they price-matched BB:
Greetings from Amazon.com.

You saved $5.00 with Amazon.com's Pre-order Price Guarantee!

The price of the item(s) decreased after you ordered them, and we gave you the lowest price.

The following title(s) decreased in price:

Body Heat [Blu-ray]
Price on order date: $19.95
Price charged at shipping: $19.95
Lowest price before release date: $14.95
Amount to be refunded: $5.00
Quantity: 1
Total Savings: $5.00

$5.00 is your total savings under our Pre-order Price Guarantee.

Because we reduced the price of your pre-release title between shipment (when we charged you) and the release date, you will automatically receive a refund for $5.00. You will receive an additional e-mail when this refund is processed.

I don't know about anyone else, but to me, it's the way you're presenting the info not that you're letting people know about it in the first place. Both the Matrix and 007 "warnings" should've been posted in the existing threads for both releases; IMO, there really wasn't any reason for individual topics for these three (including the Omen set) supposed issues. Secondly, you come off as a bit sensationalist over some pretty minor things. I could understand if there were problems with the discs themselves, but it's just over some packaging that, yes, some may dislike or have problems with, but plenty of others would never give a second thought. It isn't as though standard cases are trouble-free, either, but we don't get posts about how you might get a broken spindle or anything.

In the past things get lost in the threads. For example, we have a Samsung 1500 + Matrix deal thread going on right now. Why not just put that in the Player thread? How about that "The Thing" thread right now? Couldn't that just be included in the normal Halloween 3 pack one? This forum is rather slow, a few extra threads are not hurting anyone and if you don't want to read it, skip right by. I have very little interest in some of the discussions here (Thunderbirdson BD) but you don't see me going in that thread and telling the OP to post it in the Foreign Cinema BLU thread do you?

And for the record, this thread wasn't a huge problem until a certain member decided to come in here and try and say I was wrong - even when I provided him with ample proof that we were misinformed by a certain site (where he happens to review BD for) and this forum posted that information originally for our official thread.

Maybe it's just me, but I can easily see that this "warning" would be suited for the regular thread, whereas the other ones mentioned like a hot player deal would warrant it's own.

Of course, I also don't see the point of bitching about it and find pro-bassonist's reply and attitude worse then the thread itself.

Exactly. "Alert" threads should be for short term deals and the like, not really for packaging opinions.

And now I'll stop beating this dead horse and go about my business.

+1

I don't take any issue with the existence of this thread, but the original thread title was silly. "Ultimate Matrix Collection booklet is softcover" would have sufficed. I'm glad the title has been clarified, though the sensationalism hasn't been reduced.

Wow... you would think, that with all the people who are saying that this thread is not needed, that this forum could institute some kind of button to report to the actual mods / admins, instead of having regular users duke it out, telling each other what is considered the right way to post certain information...

The mods already changed the thread title (as I requested).

Like I said before, if they don't like the thread they don't have to post in it. If they don't like my posts, add me to their block list as I certainly don't care. But apparently there are others out there that want to know that information as the Omen/James Bond thread shows and with title shipping from most places tomorrow some people may want to cancel their order if they didn't know what was changed. Best part is, every time they have post to whine about it this thread just gets bumped to the top.

Thanks for the information Gizmo. Can't we just take it easy on Sunday and get along like the Dodgers and the Phillies?

The book in that photo doesn't look hardcover to me either. But regardless, I seriously hope that a BOOK does not sway your decision on whether or not to buy this set. Either you want the movies on BD, or you don't. A book shouldn't be a deciding factor. Especially whether or not the book is hardcover or not... Most people would page through it once, then never touch the damn thing...

I feel your issues about the packaging for the James Bond and Omen releases are warranted. That may be worth the warning to some people. However, to act like it's a deal breaker about a booklet dude, that's all people are trying to say, and numerous people have said that at this point. I'm sure you can understand that.

Thi is a great set. The box is sturdy and the green matrix screen is sunken in behind the window. The discs are in slim cases. The Animatrix is in HD now.

The only thing I found to be 'meh', was The Matrix Experience being presented on a double sided DVD, and one single sided DVD. Why not just throw them all on a Blu-ray disc? Warner cheaped out there.

Regardless of whether it was ever supposed to be a hardcover, that first image makes it look like they were including a bound book; what came with the set was just a little stapled booklet.

Also, you don't see them often, but sometimes you'll find books with flexible boards that are bound like a hardcover. (Which is sort of what the book in the first photo looks like to me.)

Still looks like a sharp set; I might consider picking it up for $75.

You still have the Pre-order Price Guarantee. I've had a few pre-order items get refunded since the 30 day thing went away.
