Yea its a video distributor for a bunch of Independent video stores. I no longer work for that video store nor does that store even exist anymore, but the online account still works and i have access to our old rep who helps me out.

Oh MAN! First Oliver Stone movie I ever saw, and a very underrated one at that. On a side note, this was the movie that made me believe Jamie Foxx would become a star, and he's great in this (as are Pacino, Woods, Modine, Quaid et al), possibly robbed of an Oscar nom. Also one of the few sports movies I like, if only because it's not inspirational at all.

Well it would seem that Hamlet 2 is being released on standard DVD on December 23rd. Has anybody heard any grumblings on the interwebs about a BD release?

Yeah, saw that too. Well, given the it's low budget film style (like "Juno"), I'm o.k. with just a standard DVD for this. But will buy the day it's out. Funniest movie I've seen in years.

That combined with the fact that it tanked makes it unlikely. However when I did see Hamlet 2, it was a DLP presentation...Burn After Reading on the other hand did fairly well at the Box Office, so I'm sure we'll see a BD for that one.

Tanking at the box office means nothing when it comes to BD releases. Take for example "In the Name of the King". Hell, even "Southland Tales" which made only $275,380 is getting a BD release.

Neither of those were day and date though. What I was really getting at was that Universal has really gone for the stereotypical demographic with action, sci-fi, and mainstream comedies, perhaps more than other studios.

Yeah, neither of those releases you mentioned are Universal titles... they aren't in the habit of putting out titles like this on BD (I'm still sitting, waiting, wishing for In Bruges)... I think if Hamlet 2 was a big hit, it would street day and date on BD, so saying that tanking had NOTHING to do with it is slightly off base IMO. So far it's track record isn't great - if DVD proves otherwise, we'll probably see a BD in the future.
Who knows, maybe they'll announce it and are just behind the 8 ball...but Universal isn't handling titles the same way these other studios are. Fox will release most genre pics and Sony will release just about ANYTHING on blu-ray... I'm guessing both of those titles performed well enough on DVD to justify these releases... like I said if Hamlet 2 is a dvd smash, then Universal will take note and you'll probably see it a few months down the road...

Fox did skip out on Lars and the Real Girl, Charlie Bartlett, The Darjeeling Limited and Waitress. All studios have skipped releasing certain films which is just mind-boggling especially if they think Blu-ray is the next format. Everything should be released on it, period.

Also, aren't they limited -- based on the availability of manufacturing facilities -- as to the number of titles they can put out? Especially with regard to BD50s, which I thought was one of the reasons why Warner and Universal are releasing so many BD25s . . .

I seem to remember hearing something like that, but I guess that doesn't necessarily hold true for Focus Features, even though they're under the Universal umbrella: Doomsday hit Blu-ray in July, but Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day came out on DVD in August without a release on Blu-ray.
