From Dark Horizons:
Director Christopher Nolan has confirmed that on the Blu-ray release, the film will swap between a 2.40:1 aspect ratio for scenes shot on 35mm and full sized widescreen 1.78:1 for the IMAX scenes (IMAX is shot in 1.66:1 so a little bit of the top and bottom of the IMAX image will be lost).

However, I always thought that IMAX was something like 1.44:1.

I think the IMAX scenes will be in the special features - therefore separate from the film - on the DVD version only, while they will be integrated into the film on the Blu-ray.
Of course they could still to the shifting AR on DVD - nothing to stop them from doing that as its not restricted to BD capabilities or space.
I fully welcome the shifting AR on the BD, and won't find it distracting.

Director's say a lot of things about the DVD releases that never come to pass.

DVDactive has the back cover art, which lists the ratio for the feature as 2.40, not a shifting ratio, which would indicate the IMAX footage is only in the bonus features, as per that ad...

Additionally, I don't think the fact that it says "2.4:1" on the back cover image means there won't be shifting aspect ratios. Right next to 2.4:1 it says, "16x9" which is what the IMAX footage would be at, if they do what Nolan said they were going to do.
Ultimately, I don't think the press sheet gives a definitive answer to any of us on what will be presented, but I think it at leasts suggests integrated IMAX framed sequences in the movie itself.

What's the deal with the 2-disc Batpod Blu-ray edition (as seen on DVDActive)? Not even a standard case for the film - the discs have to go in that custom holder that doubles as the display base for the batpod replica? hmmm ...

ALL Warner releases say 16x9 beside the ratio. Take a look at any of their blu-ray discs, I don't think we can use that as an indicator. I know that Nolan was pretty sure the IMAX would be integrated onto the disc, but I see no indication from this back cover or other materials that that is actually the case... we'll have to wait and see if Warner clears it up.
I would have expected the ratio on the back to look something like Enchanted, which had a shifting ratio.

My point wasn't that "16x9" being there guarantees a shifting ratio, but rather that the "16x9 2.4:1" wording on the back cover does not guarantee a static 2.4:1 aspect ratio. Whether "16x9" is listed the same on every other WB release is unimportant. We don't know how WB would list a shifting aspect ratio, because they haven't released one yet (to my knowledge anyway).
Enchanted was not a WB title. Furthermore, WB is fairly notorious for having incomplete information on their early back cover art. My only point is that from the information available so far, we simply don't know if there will be a shifting ratio or not.

Yes, WB's temp art sometimes messes up sound specs and ratios so like I said earlier, we'll have to wait and see. Of course Enchanted isn't WB but like Giles pointed out, I was citing it as an example of what WB would probably do. I say we table this until another press release or other info CONFIRMS either way...

It might not guarantee a static release but saying that it is unimportant that ALL releases have it makes your first point moot - you brought it up as if it was something special and I was just showing that it certainly isn't an indicator EITHER WAY.
