Actually, the slip cover has Iron Man (as seen above & on DVD Empire) on the front and a normal back with photos, synopsis and specs (Same as from post #1 in this thread, but with the UPC area cut out in the upper right).

The actual cover has a photo of Tony Stark ONLY (no title, text or anything else) and the back has what you currently see on DVD Empire (Iron Man standing with his hand out).

The image of Tony on the cover matches the image of Iron Man on the slip cover, so when you slide it off, it looks like you're removing Iron Man's suit...at least I guess that's what Paramount was shooting for.

Nice slip cover, bad interior when the slip cover is eventually lost.

How do you lose a slipcover, particularly without losing the DVD it's on? Damn poltergeist...

Stores lose slipcovers all the time to damage, but I presume this will be a plastic slipcover and it will be sealed inside the plastic wrap, ala Transformers.

Mine will be here today - Ill let you know.

But like Pushing Daisies, the slipcover is the cover art, so its got to be shrinkwrapped. I assume Iron Man will be as well since if it does not have the slip cover there is no UPC. No UPC = Can't sell it.

Ok, got Iron Man. The slip cover is NOT shrinkwrapped to the Blu-ray case. Its like any normal slipcase - a small cut in the back exposing the UPC on the Blu-ray case.

I find this a little bothersome: "I saw Iron Man at the local AMC, it appeared to have heavy grain in many scenes, such as the action taking place in Afghanistan, that lent a news-like realism to those sequences. But the 2.35:1, 1080p video on the Blu-ray is cleaner and clearer--nearly noise-free. What happened? Either the film was subject to digital noise reduction to produce the BD content, or it was sourced from video that was later post-produced to look grainy for the theatrical release."

Even more bothersome is his response to it: "I will not deduce points because Paramount opted to produce the Blu-ray differently than the theatrical release. I wish that was the case, as I have no aversion to film grain and want to see film as the director intended. But who can blame Paramount for pursuing a cleaner look after Warner received so much criticism for the grain in 300, for example. "

Yes, he did write "deduce" instead of "deduct," but that's not what's really bothering me here. Is it okay to apologize for studios removing grain because people complain about grain that is meant to be there? I don't recall a lot of grain in Iron Man outside of the scenes where he's in the terrorist camp, but it's a bit distressing for me to see a reviewer make a point to note the lack of grain and then sweep it under the rug.

I'm surprised there's no audio commentary, as Favreau has done several live commentaries for Iron Man at the Aero Theater in Santa Monica since its release.

It's a BD-Live title -- they could make a downloadable commentary available online, couldn't they?

True, but then how could Paramount milk more money out of you that way? I'm sure we'll get a new edition before Iron Man 2 comes out...

The grain is visible on the Blu-ray. Perhaps not quite as visible as it was in the theater, but it is there. Looks like Paramount split the difference between giving it a sharp transfer and remaining loyal to the original theatrical look. I thought the color in a lot of scenes seemed oversaturated as well. My personal reaction to the video quality was above-average, but not quite reference quality: 4 out of 5 stars for me.

I'm a little surprised that some of the reviews so far are rating the video as reference quality...I'm guessing that may be more of a reaction to the "joy" of having this film on Blu-ray than a fair assessment of what the video is really like. It's such a good movie, you tend to want to give it a "break" on specs just so the overall rating goes up a little. I wouldn't be surprised if Dark Knight gets a "pass" as well in these categories, unless Warners really screws up the transfer.

Still, despite the fact that it's missing an audio commentary track or a picture-in-picture one, I think this still is going to rank on many lists as one of the best Blu-ray releases of 2008.

Oh, and just to add to the bonus features: I was able to find at least ONE Easter Egg. It's on Disc 1 and it's a clip (about 2 minutes) of a BTS look at the shooting of Stan Lee's cameo with comments by both Stan and Robert Downey, Jr. I won't spoil the fun of finding it - but it was pretty easy to uncover. That's the only one I've been able to find on both discs.

Are we getting a Casino Royale Blu-ray double dip later on in the year? I think the studios are pretty hesitant to double dip on Blu-ray.

So far, all BD-Live stuff have been downloadable Trailers/Previews, shorts clips, and quizzes. I wonder how much room an audio track would take up?

In 2 years? Who knows... But I was just thinking about a DVD double dip.

A low bitrate DD 2.0 track should take up less space than a couple of those HD trailers, I'd imagine.

Interesting. So it is possible then for a studio to make a commentary available via download...that would be pretty amazing if they did that as it would ensure the disc would get played multiple times to rewatch new features. So far I can't think of a single BD or HD title that has any additional features available after the title streeted. Hell my Blood Diamond HD DVD is still asking me questions about what future HD DVD titles I would like to see from Warner

The HD DVD of TRANSFORMERS added content (primarily short video clips) in the weeks following its release.

The Starship Trooopers 3 Blu-ray had featurettes from a Comic-Con panel that were available for a limited time (stupid idea) and spaced out over the course of a couple months.

Tower.com has this for $25.86. Even better is it "ships in 12 hours". I just placed an order and mine is processing and hopefully ships today. If that's the case, I should have it Friday.

Others have gotten new releases early as well from Tower.

Maybe I am naive here, but aren't most commentary tracks like MP3's? Couldn't studios just release them like the Rifftrax boys? Download it right to the 1 GB storage, and have it take up all of 50 megs of space. It certainly isn't a bad idea and not a whole lot of effort.

Also, that also is working under the assumption that your Blu-Ray player can handle MP3's.

Thanks for the heads up Mr. Cinema. I ordered this and Forgetting Sarah Marshall, here's hoping they actually ship in "12 hours!"
