Iron Man BLU-RAY 9/30/08

***UPDATE***

Iron Man has been recalled due to a manufacturing defect, causing it to be unplayable on certain standalone players. The UPC info is listed below, although stores should have the corrected copy on Tuesday:

Defective: UPC: 097361385747
New "Fixed": UPC: 097361385709

The consensus is, if Disc 1 is blue, you have the new corrected disc.

In an early announcement to the trades, Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed that they will bring the superhero blockbuster hit 'Iron Man' to Blu-ray on September 30th, day-and-date with the DVD release. No additional technical specs of supplemental features have been announced at this time, but a full press release is expected soon.

Damn, that and the Apatow trilogy on the same day? Unless I find some great pre orders I'm going to have some hard choices to make

Looks like sd dvd is getting a $5 price increase because according to the digital bits the blu ray will have a srp of $39.99 (standard) while dvd is $34.99 for one disc & $39.99 for 2 disc (both a $5 bump up making the 2 disc sd dvd the same retail as blu ray). Usually sd dvds have a srp of $29.99 & $34.99 (for separate one & two disc).

Hmmm, could we possibly see a greater MSRP discount in line with the dvd when it comes out then?

the one-disc seems like it's getting a bump, but Paramount has priced other 2-disc day and date titles at MSRP $39.99 on DVD this year (Sweeney Todd for example).

You must be talking about the German version since I have yet to see any news about a Region A version being in a steelbook.

It's a Paramount thing. World Trade Center and Mission: Impossible III 2-disc dvd editions had $39.99 list prices, same as their BD counterparts.

That looks pretty good. Hopefully there's no big quotes added, but I have my doubts.

That cover looks alright. I forget what the original theatrical poster for this film looks like, but I'm guessing this is pretty close. I'm hoping for that steelbook Blu-ray release to come to Canada, or some other exclusive so that I'll have an extra incentive to make this a day one purchase.

The poster is way, way cooler than that. Why all the actor faces? Isn't the giant robot suit the selling point?

Yes the suit is the main selling point but having 3 oscar nominees and 1 winner on the cover can't hurt.

The quote is going to say "Directed by the guy who cameoed in DareDevil!"

Actually, that is the original "Style B" poster art:

I prefer the "Style A" poster though:

I really hope they don't DNR this to hell like they apparently did with the Jack Ryan movies.
