Re: One & Only HD/BD Bargains Thread Part III: Back in Training

For anyone that lives near a Frys Electronics ... if you look at the ads and say " 11.99 BD !?!?!...meh ... none that i want" you might want to head over anyway because when they list 10-15 BD's on sale they'll have an extra 10-15 on sale that are not advertised sometimes next to the price it'll say "15 more instore".... kinda the way Best Buy does it with SD movies

I have the HD-DVD and it looks and sounds pretty good, not reference material but a definite upgrade to the SD I had. I think in most cases it was the same transfer but I'm not sure.

I've heard several people on several forums say that despite its low budget, the '76 Assault... is one the most astonishing looking catalog titles on Blu-ray right now. It's a Lowry remaster.

I was scratching my head wondering how I had missed the original on HD-DVD!

Yes, I am indeed talking about the '76 version. I'm not expecting to be floored by its quality, realizing its low budget, but I wanted to make sure it wasn't a disc with some possible issues. Sounds like it's not. I figure it would be a good one to buy with Planet Terror and Death Proof during this sale.

65% off your choice of three different Blu-ray 3-packs.

I may grab up the Ghost Rider, Resident Evil, Underworld one.

Dang, they never have sets I could use. About the only one close is Vantage Point, Patriot, Black Hawk Down but I already have Patriot, now I'd have to sell the thing.

Yep, that's the only one I was interested in, but just got Black Hawk Down and Patriot in Amazon's B2G1 last month.

Nice three packs at Amazon but in the same boat as the rest of you, I already have one, two or all three offered in the pack.

If you could pick and choose from those nine movies it might be a decent deal. But you can't: so it's not.

Pass.

On the bright side my awesome order with Amazon.co.uk arrived today.

The three packs are always frustrating because I always have one of the titles or don't want one of the titles.

Yes. Buy the one available "everywhere else."

Discovery Channel version has Sigourney Weaver narrating instead of David Attenborough. In addition, the episodes on the Discovery version have shorter run-times.

Why can't the studios just put these out as singles flicks with a lower price? It's frustrating.

because they're crappy movies, and no one would buy them unless they're packaged with 1 mildly-crappy movie.

Yea, it sucks. I just posted in case anyone was interested. I'm waiting to see the B2G1 after sale prices tonight.

I can't believe how the deals have fallen recently.

Sony Blu-Ray deal at Amazon

Save an additional 30% off any four Blu-ray discs
Save an additional 35% off seven discs
Save an additional 40% off 10 discs

They give you a whopping 19 titles to choose from.

Yeah, the selection is very weak. It is not enough to choose from. Heck, I already own a few of those titles so it makes the selection even worse! And others are bound to be in the same position. Plus -- some of those Sony titles just aren't worth that much anyway. It is a rip off. I really want Persepolis and CJ7 but $15 seems more reasonable. Not $16.86 each with a minimum order of 7 titles. That must be a joke...
