I just went Blu recently (pictures pending) and I have about 30 titles or so. I got all of them through sales (B1G1 for instance) and I am really only getting films that will show of the home theater (like Rambo, but then again I do have a soft spot) or films I waited for because I knew the Blu release would be better (Pixar films and Before The Devil Knows You're Dead come to mind). But I am not looking to overhaul my entire collection. No need to upgrade Casablanca, but plenty reason to get that new Godfather set. But I try to keep my spending reasonable.

Believe me I am far from jealous of some of the titles I see in some of these collections.

Thanks to overpar for explaining his reasons. I can understand giving movies a try when your getting them on a whim for cheap.

I just see the threads in the deal section on the weekly ads and I notice some people just picking up every BLU release at full price even when they are crap, it seems like they are buying just to buy and that makes no sense to me.

But seriously, just because someone is curious about the size of other people's collections doesn't mean their jealous. That's silly, and that comes up every time someone asks. I have a modest collection of about 400 DVD's and about 25 Blu-ray's, but to my friends they're impressed and ask about them. Hardly means they're jealous because they ask. That's a stupid assumption.

I have a very small collection: Rambo Collection. I just can't justify paying more than $10 or so a movie (I got this set for $30). PQ is okay for these older films, I might get TDK when it comes out tho.

I have a mix of 500+ movies, including SD DVDs, HD DVDs, and Blu-rays in the following small pine shelf and boxes. I have room for 50 or so more. I'm likely to start some boxes of just TV shows, soon. Alphabetical by title, first and last title are on the card on the front of the case. I display nice digipack, box sets, and stuff I really like on shelves on either side of my component console. I don't think I own any collectible packaging.

The Pin shelf is roughly 12" x 12" X 60". I've had this one for 10+ years, but you can find similar in any unfinished furniture store. Something like this fits in any wasted corner. The boxes are cheap, from Ikea, and are listed as holding 13-15 regular DVD cases. I use DiscSox sleeves, but the ones from Bags Unlimited would also work just fine (and would be much cheaper) and get 70-75 per box. I could cram even more in one of these, but they'd be difficult to sort through.

I know -- this is sacrilege to take movies out of the case. I was never a big fan of displaying a DVD collection. They rarely look nice. Bravo to the many in this thread that did it.

As for why I collect... I like to have a collection of films on hand. I do not need every possible desire readily available. But, I do want a sizable collection covering a wide array of stuff I know I can rewatch. I watch movies everyday. I've done this for close to two decades. My collection is inexpensive. Thanks to budget sites like this one, I spend less than 2 weeks take home salary each year on movies.

Well I finally added all of my blu-rays to the collection manager on bluray.com and it looks like I have 480 titles, and a few that aren't in their database yet. I'll see if I can find time to take a picture soon and upload it.

Finally alphabetized my entire collection. I decided to mix my BD and HD DVD.

Nice collection! You've got all the bases covered, but where are the Bond flicks?

Very nice collection... but I also must ask: Why the HD-DVD and Blu-ray set for the Matrix films? And why do you have both the HD-DVD/DVD combo and the HD-DVD release of Army of Darkness? And 300 on HD-DVD and Blu-ray?

I'm confused. I also want to post pics of my collection but it's not organized right now. Maybe sometime soon.

I really wanted to get the Bond films, but I already have them on DVD, twice. I'll probably wait for a price drop, or maybe until they release them all.

I got the BD Matrix collection when I bought the Samsung 1500 on Amazon, the HD DVD 300 I got for free when I bought my A3, and I wanted to replace my combo Army of Darkness but just ended up keeping both.

Mine hasn't changed a whole lot. I did add a few more HD DVD sets I picked up cheap. My Battlestar Galactica set has no discs. I sent them off to Universal for replacement two months ago and I guess I will never see them again.

To all those that are wondering why some people have large collections of blurays/hddvds:

Just understand some poeple just collect. And some people have different tastes in movies than you. So let these people collect and buy their hi def discs without your criticism. This is a thread to show your collection. It is definitely not a post for criticizing collections.

And I am for one glad that their is those people buying many discs. The more discs sold, then the better for the adoption of bluray. If these so called "crap" titles in hi def never sold, then maybe we would have less response on studios releasing in hi def.

I agree w/ your last paragraph completely, but if someone wants to criticize someone's collection, why can't they, as long as they aren't rude about it. It's a "forum" we share opinions. Nobody has posted anything negative here or mean, if someone is uptight, & can't handle a little criticism then they shouldn't post their collection.

I don't mind the criticism. Believe me I have bought way too many DVDs that were borderline buys because they were cheap and I have some HD DVDs and Blu-rays for the same reason. I will say with my HD collection at least 75% is stuff I really wanted and will rewatch. The rest is stuff that was just too cheap to pass up or free movies from buying players. I like the guilty pleasure stuff from time to time though so I'm never too guilty about the $5 impulse discs.

Nice collection Abe.

Are those shelves from Suncoast? I think I have the same ones. I wish I could have gotten another one before they closed the stores around me.

Thanks asianxcore. I'm not sure where I got those shelves... I have so many, it's easy to lose track

Darkside, I like the way you display your collection. Neat.

I don't mind any kind of criticism... bring it on!

The HD collection continues to grow (both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray)
