Not really. I just think that in a market you're still trying to grow, every sale counts.

The packaging geeks are generally the die hards, the ones that will show up on release day to pay retail for exclusive widgets while more level-headed buyers wait for coupons and sales. They're also the ones who's investment in their collections ensure they're going to stick to the format the longest.

I don't know the run numbers, but it looks like the Best Buy and Amazon exclusives sold out, so sales couldn't have been that insignificant. But if the lack of a steelbook gets people to give up on the remaining 9 -- at least until they're heavily discounted or boxed together -- why lose a sure thing in an economy like this?

Are you guys speaking from a specific knowledge that the Steelbooks are gone or are you just speculating because you haven't heard anything about them and the hour is getting late?

Yup, if there are no more steelbooks, the Bonds automatically go from a first day purchase to "ehh, when it's on sale in a few months."

I'm still holding out hope, but it's the latter.

I can only speak for my local area Best Buy stores, but I still see a bunch of the BD steelbooks when I go into the locations around here...
Also, Amazon still has their three steelbooks for sale on their site, so I don't think I'd really consider any of them truly "sold out" until they only pop up on eBay or from third party sellers....

They are due to come out in 20 days - and no Steelbook have been announced. I think it would be a pretty damn good conclusion at this point that there are no more Bond Steelbooks.

Same with me. I wont pay $23 for either of the new Bond films in May - I'll wait till $15 or less. Unlike the SBs which I gladly pre-ordered for $25 each and have yet to even watch them.

still will buy day one but i will search for who has them at the 14.99 to 16.99 range.
it just sucks the packaging wont match up. i really wish there was a way to get the enpty boxs for vol 1 through 3 so i could just transfer the discs to the box sets, and just continue from there.

There would be no point for the Vol boxes as it looks likes there will be no Vol 4 (since it only consists of 2 Bond films and not 3). Now the only way to make the movies 'match' is through slip cases. Volumes and Steelbooks appear to be dead. It's a great 'fuck you' from MGM.

I will also buy these two on day 1... steelbooks would be cool but oh well. Hope MGM comes through for You Only Live Twice & Diamonds Are Forever.

Yes. Based on past history. Amazon or Target will have a killer sale.

Yeah seriously, thanks a lot MGM...

iam willing to bet at some point we will still see a vol 4 set, of somesort it might not be for the 2 titles comming out the 12th but the boxsets are probably still comming, steelbooks though i do think are dead now for the remaining bonds which really sucks. in anycase i would still like to try and see if i cant get ahold of the vol 1 2 and 3 boxes (minus discs) to transfer my discs into.

Not to jump on the bandwagon, but yup...that pretty much goes for me, too. My speculation is that with CC gone, no one was willing to pony up for an exclusive this time around. I mean, neither of the titles are THE BEST of Bond, but what about some uniformity?

Out of the 20 'classic' Bonds 9 have been released in Steelbook form, 9 in Volumes, and 2 others come out in May (well, they are already in the Best Buy exclusive set but still). So it is possible they will do a 2 disc Vol 4 since that would mean 6 - 3 discs and 1 - 2 disc to equal 20 total. However I think we would have known about Vol 4 already given its 3 weeks until they hit retail. At this point I feel Steelbooks and Volumes for Bond are dead.

And really, why would you want the Volume boxes? The movies are out of order. Either get the normal editions or just get empty Blu-ray cases and buy/obtain the slip covers for the previous 9 Bonds (like I have).

Same here. If they're not steelbooks, I'm in no hurry to pick them up and will wait to find good deals on them.

Re: The Official Bond on Blu-ray Thread

i just prefer box sets thats just how it is in fact before i heard they were doing the steelbooks i had the boxsets on pre orderd.
bestbuy had indiacted they were going to be carrying future bond titles in steel book as well, though that has since changed, then amazon picked them up. so i really regret not going with the box sets, as for being out of order, the bond boxsets going back to dvd and vhs have never been packaged in order. and i cant say i have ever really watched any of the in order either.
in quite a long time.
when vol 4 comes out who knows maybe it will be a 4 disc instead of 3 packaging togeather license and golden gun with two other titles or perhaps they will figure something else out, its possible we could even see a set similar to the bestbuy exclusive (but in the same style box as 1-3)

but who knows in the end i will still buy no matter what just wish i hadnt made the wrong choice in terms of which ones to buy in the first place.

I'm done with the Bonds, as I'm not planning on paying full price for any Fox/MGM titles for some time after this steelbook stuff.

BTW, I'm willing to bet anything that when they have all of the 3 movie box sets released they'll dump them into a complete box set eventually. Maybe I'll buy it when the price bottoms out.

Nor a Volume 4. Really pissed at MGM for dropping the Steelbooks. I won't be playing that game anymore.

Blerg. Oh well. Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace already weren't steelbooks, so it's not like my cases were uniform to begin with.

No Steelbooks means I won't be rushing out to pick these up. I'll get to them whenever. And if they continue on this path, I'll continue to hold off.

Anyone pick up today's 2 new releases - and if so did they come with Slip covers?
