Check out the earlier parts of this thread. The listing is still showing as shipping from "Amazon's Preferred Vendor", which is how is showed for others who did not have VAT removed.

At this point I'd just spend a few bucks extra and get it domestically from Xploited.

Damn you all! I just placed my order... and feel slightly queasy for dropping $41 on one movie. But I've heard too many raves, plus I love this movie. If Paramount does announce a U.S. release soon hereafter, it'll likely not be in a steelbook, so I'll consider this a collectible. Now I'm off to see what movies I can sell from my collection in order to help ease the blow I dealt to my wallet.

I hope it's as good as everyone says.

bookcase3, I'm with you on the price, but I have to tell you, after receiving this movie on Thursday, I couldn't be more pleased. Other than all the English rating markings all over the case, the steelcase is beautiful, the picture quality is stunning, the audio, the HD extras . . . it was money well spent considering it hasn't even been announced in the states yet. And I agree that it likely won't be a steelcase here in the states, unless there is some sort of Best Buy exclusive. I'm thrilled to have this in my collection.

Glad to hear the good review. Amazon says I should expect this on Monday. We'll see I can't wait!

Again, can someone CONFIRM from an actual source that this is an unrated cut with "a smidgen more gore"?

No, but with the right coupons and such it can be much less expensive.

That's the version for me; planning to order it this weekend. I'm not crazy about that cover art, though (I prefer the poster art of him sitting in his chair, plus there are too many crummy certificates and junk on this), so I'll be needing to whip up a replacement. In fact, that's probably the biggest reason I'd rather have this one instead of the steelbook -- the artwork on a steelbook isn't replaceable.

Being $10 cheaper helps, too . . .

How do you figure?

The cart price of the item is £17.98. That is with VAT included. The only other charge is the shipping charge. The VAT is always present on Amazon UK's prices in my experience. You wont see it removed until you've actually begun the checkout process and it's eligible for removal.

Now I don't know why that shows VAT at 0.00, but when I placed my order (before it was being fulfilled by the 3rd party company), my item was reduced to £15.30 when I went to check out.

Just showing you my receipt. Looks like VAT is added at checkout - much the way US sales tax is added. If VAT was included the VAT line would have stated how much the VAT was - which in this instance looks to be 0.00.

I agree the VAT line should show an amount, but instead it is part of 17.98 price. In my experience, the price you see when you click Add To Cart on Amazon UK always has VAT included - that's just the standard, unlike the US.

Logically, you would think the Item Subtotal would read 15.30, and then the VAT line would read 2.68. But since the VAT is already in the 17.98, I guess that's why the VAT line is blank.

I'm just misunderstanding what you mean by "added at checkout", because to me, it was there when you added it to the cart as part of the item price.

Either way, it's BS you got charged VAT at all, but Amazon UK probably isn't too concerned about pissing off the small number of US buyers buying from their site.

Not sure I follow your logic? Is everything on the site listed with VAT automatically included (so the product page that shows £17.98 includes VAT)? Sorry I haven't shopped in the UK in over a decade and don't recall how it works. And then at checkout it SHOULD tell me what the actual price is along with how much VAT is being charged? That's just whacky. Still $5+ is nothing to sneeze at. Maybe I will shoot them an email.

OK now I'm really confused.

Anytime I've used Amazon UK, the price I see when I view the product page is the price I see when it's in my cart. After I've logged in, the price is decreased due to the removal of VAT. This means the price shown on the product page must have included VAT.

Now it's possible something has changed in the past month or so, but I've been buying from Amazon UK for years, and it has always been the way I described.

EDIT: I just double checked and it is exactly how I described. I put the Air Force One BD in my cart at 17.98. I logged in, picked my dispatch address, and after that the price was 15.30 because it was shipping to the US.

That's the way things used to work, but Amazon recently started having a number of products be distributed from Jersey, which is a tax haven and has no VAT. Technically, the item is not sold by Amazon, but by a "Preferred Seller" (although the listing usually continues to say "Item sold and shipped by Amazon"). As a result, the price listed on the Amazon page has no VAT. What you see on the item's page is what it rings up as, no matter where you live.

Items not distributed through Jersey will have VAT included by default. If you live in the UK, you pay what's listed on the item page. If you're shopping internationally, VAT will be deducted at checkout.

My last order from Amazon UK had a mix of titles, some where VAT was deducted at checkout and some where there was no deduction. I emailed them about it and was given the Jersey explanation.

Yes, it does.

The only items with subtracted VAT on the main interface are those sold through Jersey.

Dear Customer

Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry regarding the VAT for
your order #026-5185387-9605161.

I take this opportunity to assist you in this regard.

I checked our catalogue and found that this item "Sweeney Todd - The Demon
Barber of Fleet Street (Steelbook) [Blu-ray] [2007]" is currently available with
our Amazon's Preferred Merchant Indigostarfish.com.

A customer ordering an item from Indigostarfish.com is considered the importer
of record and the products imported into the UK are generally liable to UK
import VAT, payable by the importer. However there are special tax and customs
regulations that exempt deliveries of 'low value' goods (with a total value
below GBP 18) from import VAT.

Please be informed if the item is listed in our website as available from
"Amazon's Preferred Merchant", the price of the item listed excludes VAT.

This is the reason you were not charged for VAT in this order
#026-5185387-9605161 and VAT line shows up 0.00 GBP.

We hope that we have been of assistance in your enquiry and If you have any
further questions do not hesitate to contact us via the following link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/email

Thank you for shopping at Amazon.co.uk

Hmm interesting. So this explains why so much stuff is priced 17.98.

This actually makes it sound like the Amazon UK should not be removing the 2.68 when it is being shipped from Amazon directly.

The end result is, Amazon UK listings with the "preferred merchant" sell the item for 17.98 excluding VAT, while Amazon UK as a direct seller sells it for 17.98 including VAT.

Clear as mud I think.

I love the cover. I much prefer it to the steelcase picture, but because it is in a steelcase, I can't really see taking it out to put in a regular case with a custom cover. But the cover looks great.

I just received my copy today, and the steelbook is a real stunner. W-O-W! Assuming the PQ/AQ is as impressive as I've read, I will not regret this purchase when the US release comes rolling out... whenever that might be. Seriously, for those like me who were on the fence, the packaging is superb.
