My order from Amazon UK is on its way. I can verify firsthand shortly. Reviews on the import have stated that yes, it is a steelbook and that the PQ and AQ are excellent. Also has all the extras from the US 2-disc DVD in HD. Sound like a winner.

and reportedly it's the uncensored international cut, with a smidgen more gore. Supposedly the MPAA wasn't too pleased with all the blood spurting and flying everywhere near the film's finale.

For true?? Holy crap -- this may need to be my first HD import!! Especially since a US version hasn't been announced yet . . .

Watch, though -- I'll order this one and the US version will be announced a day or two after it arrives. And it'll have multiple cuts and more extras or some such ridiculous-ness.

Considering it has 50gb of space, and most DVDs at 9gb have at least 2 x 5.1 soundmixes in there, it really isn't all that impressive.

That said, i always liked the sound/sub options on UK releases.

I definately think this could end up being an Unrated cut here. The steelbook might be the one thing we dont get.

this is extracted from imdb (yes, I know they don't tend to be completely 100% accurate) but if they are, you can somewhat assume Paramount US won't bother releasing an uncut version stateside:

"The final act in the US version uses different angles than the International version of the film during some extra violent deaths. The different angles focus more Sweeney instead of the immense amounts of blood that can be seen more vividly in the International cut. All in all it only amounts to around 3-5 seconds that are actually different and were needed in order to get the R-Rated in the US."

Yeah -- they don't release Unrated cuts, do they? Isn't that why the international version of "Friday the 13th" has never been released here?

Warner's holds the international rights to the unrated cut of 'Friday the 13th' - as to why Paramount was pee-brained in making the remaining 'censored' Friday the 13th films de facto international prints is beyond me, the MPAA's rating are only applicable to the US theatrical release of the film, NOT to other countries film/censor boards where violence would be more tolerated.

It's not just the US, though. I think every region/country has its own brand of inconsitencies and hypocrisies. How many films like "Straw Dogs" or "A Clockwork Orange" were banned outright in the UK, but played here in the States? Studios don't have to submit their films to the MPAA, either. It'd probably be financially disastrous not to, though, given how so many theater chains flat refuse to carry unrated films.

I don't know to what extent this happens in other countries, but here in the US the ratings system seems to be 99% marketing.

My favorite was Saawariya, which supposedly contains the following subtitles (and I may be missing some):

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Chinese, Korean, Thai, Arabic, Dutch, Swedish, Czech, Norwegian, Danish, Hindi, Greek, Icelandic, Finnish, Turkish, Bulgarian

OK, still new to the Blu game, so sorry if this is a stupid question. Will this release be playable on U.S. players (specifically my PS3)? I'm still unclear what can and can't be imported. Well, technically I guess anything can be imported, but I'm still trying to figure what will play on my PS3 without buying any additional stuff.

The disc is region free and will work in any player.

Also, since the extras are in HD, you don't have to worry about the PAL issue. Clckworang, with each title you have to make sure the disc is Region A or all-region. If it's Region B or C only, it won't play in a US PS3. As has been pointed out, this disc will play.

Paramount released the unrated Team America: World Police (with the extra bodily functions, to put it politely), so I'm not sure why they don't put out other unrated editions.

I'm really tempted to get this, but I don't like paying $40 for a movie. The steelbook doesn't do anything for me. I guess I can make an exception here.

Oh, yeah . . . I'd forgotten about that one.

Thanks for the clarification, guys.

This title certainly is tempting. I'm still surprised this wasn't released on Blu when the standard version dropped.

Well, Paramount wasn't releasing anything on BD (or HD DVD for that matter) when the DVD came out. When they announced their titles, I was surprised and disappointed it wasn't one of them.

I'm hoping to have mine any day now. I got my ship notice late Friday from Amazon UK but I assume it didn't actually enter the shipping chain until Monday.

So mine did arrive today from the UK, and I can confirm it's a steelbook. Should be able to give it a spin Thursday or Friday.
