From The Digital Bits:
Kino Lorber has set Salt of the Sea for DVD release on 6/7, followed by Korkoro on DVD only on 6/14. They also have The Romantic Englishwoman and Priest of Love on Blu-ray and DVD on 6/21, followed by The Sacrifice: Remastered Edition on both formats on 6/28.

Definitely. I've often maligned their releases, but so far their Blu-ray output has been quite good, with a steady stream of quality presentations. They still seem to be allergic to commentaries though.

Funny you should say that, I just listened to the David Kalat commentary on Sherlock JR last night and it was pretty good. It seemed a bit like he was reading an essay, but there were enough personal anecdotes to make it interesting. At least he was prepared.

Kalat's commentaries are always illuminating. I'm actually listening to his Scarlet Street commentary right now, and learning quite a bit.

David Holzman's Diary on 8/16.

This is a fantastic film, but I'll probably just stick with my Second Run disc.

I watched The Scent of Green Papaya last nice and was astonished at how good it looked. Buy this one, people.

I can't wait, the Keaton & Chaplin Criterion blu-ray releases are what I'm most excited about, and of course Tarkovsky blu-rays.

Hopefully there is some price break on The Sacrifice, $31.49 is an unacceptable price when you can pre-order the Keaton shorts for $36.99 for 3 blu-rays.

Also, I can't believe how anti-customer Kino is these days, I've sent numerous e-mails and Facebook comments and never had one returned. Kind of frustrating, when you fork over a large sum for their releases.

Even with the EE used, it still looks loads better than any of the other releases...

Re: KINO goes Blu

my The Sacrifice hasn't even shipped from DVD Planet but people are reporting they have received both The Sacrifice and Keaton shorts from Deep Discount, what the fuck. I can't wait to get both (or ANY of the blu-rays I ordered from DVD Planet)

Battling Butler / Go West 9/27

I got my copy of The Sacrifice today, it looks amazing, but its pretty shitty that Kino put together such a nice package and then used the universally hated recyclable blu-ray cases.

Re: KINO goes Blu

And now D. W. Griffith gets the Blu-ray treatment: according to bluskies on the Blu-ray.com forum, Kino announced both Birth of A Nation and Way Down East on Blu for 11/22.

Great, nice to see Kino releasing more than just Keaton films on Blu-ray. I'll pick up Way Down East for sure. Hopefully more Griffith is on the way.

Going Places AKA Les valseuses for 11/1 too. I wasn't expecting this one on blu-ray at all. Didn't even know Kino got the rights to it.

Wow, this IS a surprise. A terrific movie that I don't think I'd recommend to any of my friends

Wow. Thanks for the info. I agree, this is a total surprise. I'm quite a fan of the Blier films featuring Depardieu and Dewaere.

Re: KINO goes Blu

On February 28th, Kino Video will release on Blu-ray Fritz Lang's (Metropolis, M) noir picture Scarlet Street (1945), starring Edward G. Robinson, Joan Bennett, and Margaret Lindsay.

A few weeks earlier, on February 7th, the independent distributors will also bring to Blu-ray William A. Wellman's A Star is Born (1937), starring Janet Gaynor, Fredric March, Adolphe Menjou, Lionel Stander, and My Robson.

Exact technical specs, special features, and region coding status for these releases are unknown at the moment.
