Damn. Kino's distributing a lot of labels now.

Redemption. Raro. Tartan.

Now Scorpion Releasing posted on Facebook that they'll be distributed by Kino in the future.

That makes sense for a lot of the smaller micro-labels, many of which are driven by passionate fans more than the typical studio MBA. Twilight Time would not get half the hate it does if they switched to a regular BD distributor.

Re: KINO goes Blu

I'd put the Kino acquisition of 70 MGM/UA titles right up near the top of the list as far as most exciting announcements this year. And even better, it appears they are shotgunning them out. No sitting around twiddling their thumbs over what to release. They're going the Olive route and getting product out there asap. And like the Olive stuff, it's not going to be painstakingly restored and loaded with extras- which is fine by me.
So many of these titles have only been released by MGM in non anamorphic or archaic transfers at the dawn of the DVD era. Even a perfunctory, but competent HD release is going to be a godsend.

The full list so far with their release dates (pilfered from HTF)
  • Across 110th Street (09-09-14)
  • A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum (09-09-14)
  • Billion Dollar Brain (10-07-14)
  • Breakheart Pass (08-12-14)
  • Cast A Giant Shadow (08-26-14)
  • Children's Hour, The (08-12-14)
  • Cotton Comes to Harlem (09-09-14)
  • Duel at Diablo (07-29-14)
  • Elmer Gantry (09-23-14)
  • Flesh & Blood (09-16-14)
  • Great Train Robbery, The (09-16-14)
  • Jennifer (10-14-14)
  • Juggernaut (09-09-14)
  • Last Embrace (10-14-14)
  • Married to The Mob (10-14-14)
  • Marty (07-29-14)
  • Meteor (09-16-14)
  • Mr. Majestyk (08-12-14)
  • Mulholland Falls (10-07-14)
  • On The Beach (08-26-14)
  • Paris Blues (07-29-14)
  • Party, The (08-26-14)
  • Private LIfe of Sherlock Holmes, The (07-22-14)
  • Run Silent, Run Deep (09-23-14)
  • Sabata (07-22-14)
  • Scalphunters, The (07-22-14)
  • Separate Tables (07-29-14)
  • Taras Bulba (09-23-14)
  • Topkapi (10-07-14)
  • True Confessions (10-07-14)
  • Unforgiven, The (08-12-14)
  • What's New Pussycat? (08-26-14)
  • Witness for the Prosecution (07-22-14)
  • Young Savages, The (09-23-14)

There are also strong rumors they'll be releasing Jennifer- a 1978 Carrie knock-off that hasn't been released on DVD (ever, anywhere) along with To All A Goodnight and Planet Of The Vampires for this Halloween.

And since they are apparently not limited to just MGM's UA catalog, I'm holding out hope we'll be seeing the Night Stalker/Night Strangler TV movies.

My personal want list out of this deal is
Who'll Stop The Rain
Eye Of The Needle
Last Embrace (announced for 10-14)
Roller Boogie
Comes A Horseman
White Buffalo
Smile (at one time rumored to be headed to Criterion)
Rancho Deluxe
I Start Counting
The Lawman
The Fortune Cookie
Billion Dollar Brain (announced for 10-07)
Lord Love A Duck
The Hallelujah Trail
The World Of Henry Orient
Something Wild
...among many others

Between this deal, Twilight Time, Criterion as well as the oddball releases in Germany and the UK, I finally feel like there's actually a shot at seeing a good deal of these make it to Bd.
