Sounds like Fry's. I just got back from the Austin store and they have doubled the HD section. Most titles have a red discount card, but all seem to be $19.99 and up. I did notice several of these titles were $12.99 and $14.99 a few weeks ago. Not sure what's up with that.

Besides that, what's the deal with new releases on HD DVD costing so damn much? I mean, it IS a dead format for Pete's sake! -rolleyes-

DDD put the prices of Paramount catalogue titles back up = BOOOOO!!!

Most of the ones in my wish list are still < $20 with many still $12.30. The only one I saw jump was Coming to America.

They probably put the paramounts back up to coincide with them becoming re-available on blu-ray.

"most" titles? only two of the 30+ on my wishlist were raised - and they were both previously 9.99 paramount titles. Everything else stayed the same - MOST at $12.30 and $15.xx....Warriors for example is now like 20 cents more than the blu ray...so obviously a ploy to push people towards blu on certain titles.

I've got to agree with zeez that a number of the hds went up big time earlier in the week. Sure, plenty are still cheap at $12-$15, but just look at the top sellers on the first page:

I remember debating whether to order Top Gun and The Untouchables not too long ago and that wouldn't been the case if they were $22.

Universal titles are the same. Paramount raised their prices. Weinstein titles are still $9.11 so get them while you can. I just nabbed Sahara last week, as well as Sleepy Hollow and The Untouchables.

I'm sure they will go down in price or a B1G1 or something is coming. Although if a B1G1, it makes these $11.04, and I would pass on this "deal" since they were $9.98 in the first place. But probably DeepDiscount is getting ready for a B1G1 on Paramount titles.

People have been saying that stores are prepping for B2G1 for months and we've yet to see it. I'm not holding my breath for anymore awesome clearance sales. :/

I was following the HD player sales for a while, but I lost track. My local bestbuy has a A-20 for 149.00 on clearance, has that one been found any cheaper? I am in the market for a seconf HD player, and I wonder if I should pick that up...

as has been pointed out, the only titles that went up were the paramount 9.98 titles - i.e. nowhere near "most" had dvds. and it's a function of paramount, not DDD.

Still......some of those $22 titles on DDD are $11.95 on Amazon.com.....you would think they would try to monitor their competition so as no to nearly double their prices.

This is ridiculous, I bought the a-35 thinking I was going to be able to purchase HD-DVDs for around $5-7 a pop. Obviously that hasn't happen yet and not likely to ever happen much to my dismay. I recently bought a PS3 so now I have another decent upconverter and no longer need the a-35. PM me if interested in buying the unit.

That was taking quite a chance. I don't think anyone here thought it was going to get down that far. I didn't/wouldn't expect it. $10 was my target and bought all of my titles between $8 (Hollywood Video) and $10 through trades.

I considered Hollywood vid myself, but considering just about every HD i rented from them looked like someone passed it through a shredder... i faltered.

Well, I personally thought it wouldn't be until June for the cheap titles to come around, but I was surprised by the prices back in late Jan/Feb. It is going to take some patience. Retailers know HD DVD has a large demand, and they are taking advantage of it by keeping the prices higher. Right now, HD DVD is for those who want particular titles on HD DVD which are not yet on Blu-ray and/or won't be for years. HD DVD is also for those who already have an HD DVD collection, and can justify the additional purchases.

We will probably see $9 titles still, but sub-$9 is going to be questionable. And you won't have a choice. It will be arbitrary. Several months from now you might see a few titles for $7 or so, but this will only be due to extra stock which is not being accepted by the studio carrying that particular title.

May is the last month for WB supporting HD DVD and I think this is also the last month HD DVDs will be credited to retailers. So, retailers are getting as much as they can right now. But come the month of June, I believe we'll see some blowout prices on many titles from WB. Blowout, meaning $8 or so, or some kind of B1G1 at already reduced prices.

Finally, it's a waiting game. You'll have to be patient. But since I assume you don't have many HD DVD titles anyway, I would indeed just sell your A35 and stick with Blu-ray.

While $5-7 isn't necessarily standard, bargains can definitely be had.

With the 360 HD DVD add-on including King Kong dropping to $20 at FYE ($50 with $30 rebate) and Gamestop's Buy-2-Get-4-Free on $19.99 HDDVD's, this whole collection becomes $60 for the discs AND player, plus 5 more free movies on their way in the mail:

(The South Park & Nine Inch Nails HDDVD's are these free samplers from Best Buy with custom covers from www.cdcovers.cc - The NIN cover in the pic is that of the full retail release, but it's the closest thing and looks fine on a shelf ;))

Anyway, my point is that even including the full cost of the player as the cost of King Kong, this breaks down to ~$6.66 per DVD (or $8.57 per DVD if you don't include the samplers; $4.28 per DVD if you include the samplers + the 5 free that will come eventually), so if you look hard enough and have patience, you can hit that price point.
